This week, my grandmother lost one of her very best friends, who was also our neighbor and friend. We've spent a lot of time talking about this loss and how we need to support grandma during this difficult time. While we were outside playing and tending to the garden this morning, Nash came to me and said, "I think if we picked Grandma Nette some flowers it would just make her really happy." So, we picked and picked and picked. We made Grandma Nette a beautiful wildflower arrangement to let her know we are thinking of her and praying for her. We even had enough flowers to make two more big bouquets.
There are times when I question our parenting and wonder if we're doing a "good enough" job. Nash's gesture today warmed his momma's heart and reassured me that we are doing something right.
If you'd like one of the two arrangements we have available, please comment on the picture. The first to comment is first to claim. Each bouquet is $20, with delivery/pickup in Harper. (Cash or Venmo, please.)
This is why we started the flower patch. Nash and his daddy have always loved picking wildflowers from the ditches and fields while working on the farm. Today, Nash thought of his mommy and picked some flowers to surprise me because our blooms aren't ready yet. I love sharing this journey as a family, through the good, bad, and ugly. The OG patch is starting to produce some blooms, and I'm hopeful more will begin within a week or two. We can't wait to share them with you!"
Happy Mother's Day! πΈπ We had a great day as a family, taking it easy and enjoying each other's company. One highlight was handpicking a small bouquet from our OG patch. We canβt wait to share more blooms with you all soon! Wishing all moms a wonderful day!
Excitement is blooming here at the Zimmerman household as we are beginning to see some random blooms in our OG patch! πΈ There's just something about the simple pleasure of fresh-cut flowers sitting on the kitchen counter, isn't there? π They have this incredible knack for instantly lifting spirits and brightening even the gloomiest of days.
This arrangement? Well, it's a lot like our life right now - beautiful chaos in full bloom! πΏ With each new petal that opens, we're reminded of the wild, unpredictable journey we're on. It's messy, it's imperfect, but goodness, is it ever beautiful. Amidst the hustle and bustle of everyday life, it's these little moments that remind us to pause, breathe, and appreciate the simple joys. π»
So here's to embracing the chaos, cherishing the blooms, and finding beauty in every twist and turn along the way. π·
πΌ Embracing the Wildflower Journey! πΌ
Remember when Nash and I decided to sprinkle wildflower seeds in a patch last year? Well, what started as a random experiment turned into a blooming success! πΈ (Swipe to see the magic unfold in the first five pictures!) We had a blast sharing the beauty with friends, family, and even strangers, hosting photo sessions and you-pick days. πΈπΏ
Fast forward to this year, and we faced a dilemma: how to expand our patch while keeping the old one true to its wild roots. After some research, I learned that wildflowers have a knack for coming back, even if they're not perennials. But there's a catch - pesky grass could take over and stifle their growth. π¬ We could've tilled the patch, but that risked burying the seeds too deep.
So, we took a leap of faith and left the patch untouched, embracing its wild, untamed nature. Sure, it's brimming with grass and weeds (which we're diligently plucking), but guess what? Flowers are sprouting amidst the chaos! π± Nash even plucked our very first bloom from the original patch the other night with his dad. πΌ (Check out the last two pics for some heartwarming proof!)
Sure, my research might not have been spot-on, and there's a chance this could end in failure. But those small "wins" - witnessing growth in both our flowers and our children here on the farm - make every ounce of hard work worth it. Yes, even at 27 weeks pregnant!π πͺπΎ π»
πΏ Family Time in Full Bloom! πΏ
What a weekend it was (in March)! π With sleeves rolled up and hearts full of excitement, we dove into the hard work of prepping our flower patch as a family. From dawn till dusk, we tilled the soil multiple times to bid farewell to pesky weeds and grass. πͺπ¦ And let me tell you, there's something truly special about getting your hands dirty with the ones you love most. π±
After a day of dedication, we spent most of the evening watering the ground, nourishing it for the beautiful blooms to come. πΏ And you know what they say - teamwork makes the dream work! The next day, we gave it one final till, ensuring that our patch was primed and ready for its new inhabitants. π»β¨ πΈ
Back in February, we embarked on a journey - cultivating our new flower patch! π Tyler might've thought I was a little crazy for dreaming so big, especially with baby number three on the way, but true to form, he stood by me every step of the way, turning my vision into reality. π» πΌ
Hey there, friends!
We're the Zimmerman Family, Tyler and Katie, born and raised right here in Harper. Tyler's a proud 5th generation farmer, while I (Katie) spend my days shaping young minds in the local school district. Together, we're raising our adventurous kiddos, Nash and Bentlee, with another little one on the way due in late July! π»
Living just west of Harper, we've been dreaming of sharing our love for flowers with our community. Last year, Nash and I decided to dive in and plant a small flower patch together. To our delight, it flourished beyond our wildest dreams! So, we've decided to go bigger and better this year, spreading even more floral joy. π
For us, it's not just about the flowers; it's about instilling values like hard work, patience, kindness, and humility in our children. Nash even learned the ropes of entrepreneurship last year, selling and donating his blooms while spreading joy to random folks. πΈ
We're newbies to the wildflower growing scene, and we're embracing every moment of learning and growth. While we can't predict what this season holds, we're excited to share the journey with you. πΏ
Depending on how our crop fares, we're hoping to host pop-up bouquet sales, you-pick dates, special events like wine & bouquet nights, flower bar assortments for those special events, providing and delivering an arrangement for that special friend or loved one, and my personal favorite, bouquet subscriptions (imagine receiving fresh blooms weekly, bi-weekly, or however often you'd like!). π·
We invite you to join us on this floral adventure, as we navigate the ups and downs of flower farming and strive to create and share beauty in our little corner of the world. Thanks for following along! π πΊ
