Mary Kay Leads Efforts to Pursue Alternative Safety Testing in China Mary Kay, a global leader in the beauty industry, is again taking a leadership role on the issue of alternative testing methods for product safety and quality.

As you're aware, the use of plastic microbeads in cosmetic products has been questioned related to potential environmental concerns - specifically, their impact as pollutants in waterways throughout the country. To date, there are no scientific studies substantiating the environmental impact and microbeads have been extensively used in personal care products because of their gentle exfoliating properties and excellent safety profile. However, Mary Kay Inc. began transitioning from the use of microbeads and initiated the reformulation process for our products containing microbeads in 2013, long before most concerns arose. As always, Mary Kay® meets or exceeds all regulatory requirements in the formulation of its products.

Currently, Mary Kay Cosmetics Ltd. uses microbeads in just two products:
Satin Hands® Satin Smoothie® Hand Scrub
Satin Lips® Lip Mask
