is back this week with a forgotten one called ‘Under the Sun’ from our first record, “Ripple in Time”. It’s a song about lost opportunities and moving forward. We recorded it pretty quickly after it was written, but somehow can’t remember ever playing it much since!

This week’s is dedicated to “Picture in My Soul” also from our first record. For you music- theory types, the verses are in 5:4 time and chorus switches to 6:8. Sean and I had attended a workshop held by the great Sam Bush a few months prior. His description of playing in odd meter really motivated me to write a song in this way. The lyrics were inspired by a coworker who was about 40 years my senior and I just loved all of the old stories and pictures she’d share with me from her younger days. I always thought Sean’s mandolin carried this song and it just never seemed to need much else!

Today’s features the second song from our first record. This is So-Called Me”, and even though I wrote it on a decidedly “bad day”, it was a fun one to record. Sean broke out the wah peddle and we played the rhythm tracks live with me downstairs on guitar & Sean upstairs on drums. Thankful for extension chords. This was early 2006 and I was several months pregnant with my daughter. Actually, that was the case on most of the songs from “Ripple in Time”. ✨ Good times! ✨ 💕

While we work on new music, we’d like to declare it in our little corner of the Internet. Every week, we’ll share an old song from our catalog with a little background on how it came to be.
Starting with “Unmarked Car” (it’s still technically Sunday!) The first song on our first record, I wrote this at a time when I was listening to A LOT of Pink Floyd. Also, It was a rare instance where I had the melody pretty sorted before the chords. Sean & I were really new to DIY recording back then but I think it has a ‘vibe’. 😉

We’re not active on TikTok at all so we were surprised to discover one of our songs as a sound on the app. Sean’s instrumental ‘Ladybug Rag’ from our first record “Ripple in Time” is accompanying this cute little guy’s rainy-day adventure. We approve!
