Anderson/Weihe/Oberholtzer/Shirey/Laughrey, etc Family History and pictures

This started as a page to share family photos, but has become so much more! Photographs, genealogy, history and family stories. We'll try to figure it out!

I am slowly working on scanning The Laughrey Genealogy Collection, and now the Weihe Collection and anything else I run across. I've compiled photos and some stories and history with the photos of our family. We're related to some very fascinating people including William Weihe the first national Union leader (Amalgamated Steele, Iron, etc) on my mothers side and also related to his enemy, Henry C

UPDATE: This is actually Henry Overholt Overholt, a master weaver of the area. I do believe cuz Cathy has one of his coverlets.

I'm really excited! Received a hint from FamilySearch for Henrich Oberholtzer and it is supposed to be a portrait of him! Traced it back to a Findagrave submission and am currently trying to verify that this is indeed my 5x gr grandfather! I had figured we would never have a portrait of him, his son Jacob or Jacob's son Jacob due to the Mennonite Religion and the fact they don't like copies of their images...but our Overholt/Oberholtser Family wasn't always the norm! Makes me love them more! Here is is...and I do see resemblance to his son Abraham (on the bottle of Old Overholt Whiskey)

Sharing the story of my grandparents during WWII at the Middle TN Genealogical Society Show and Tell on Saturday (Jan 21 2023)

today was Show and Tell at the Middle Tennessee genealogical Society. They now meet at the Tennessee archives building in Downtown Nashville. It's an awesome place! We got our new cards for this building which we can use electronically to get in and out and we went up there and did a little research in the short time we had. Well the time we had before the genealogical meeting. We actually left early so that we could do this. And we got so into it time flew by and it was time for the meeting. I decided I would bring the World War II items that I have from the St Louis archives as well as just the things that we had the Grammy's wedding dress and her Rosie the Riveter items and Peppa's medals that I got and the well knowing that he was in the oh what is that about the Braves and we had nothing on that at all I had actually found something on eBay and purchase that so that I can put it in there so that I could show that he was in that the brave ones or whatever that was and display those few little items even though they weren't actually his. At least they represent what he did. The rest of the items are definitely the stuff that I got from the archives and although I didn't have anything but his pants and the coat that everybody thought was Grammy's or somebody else's Grandma Anderson's and tossed at me because I was like okay I'll keep the coat turned out to have the buttons which represented the Army and then I realized it was his army heavy jacket to wear during the winter time and Europe. So although I don't have the actual suit jacket that he was married in I only have the pants and the coat, at least I have something to represent his army service and the hat. Which needs cleaned desperately! That's why I've been looking so much into how to preserve and clean these items. So I just talked about them basically. It was a fun day and everybody brought interesting stuff. Who had like this little cigar box that her dad had collected things in there and some of it was from his dad and just stuff that meant something to him and I looked and she said there was like some kind of solve in there and I opened it up to look at what was in there and I saw the white clover Salve and I was like white clover South why does that look so familiar because it was made in Tyrone Pennsylvania where my great grandfather grew up before they moved to Dawson well it's right there beside Dawson! So I thought that was pretty cool. I don't have the pictures of everything. And Sharon ship also brought something but something happened to the video and it died and she didn't get her pictures or video of what she said. But we had a good time and we're planning more stuff. Also we're just so glad that I can drive Lurch again. He's been really lonely and he's had some medical problems.. lol! Not really Medical but he's been sick the poor van! So Greta did get video of me rambling on..LOL

Our Story

I’ve been working on this page for some time now. At first, it was simply to be sure all the family had photos that some of the other’s didn’t have. It has now grown into one of my greastest informational feats! Slowly, I am working on my family Genealogy and History, and compiling them into stories with pictures and documents. It’s more than just a Family Tree, it is all of us posting our memories and knowledge as well! I love everyone to participate and ad your stories. It feels like we are giving new life to our Ancestors that have passed, and I hope that through this effort, they will never be forgotten.

Now, I have been given the gift of the Keeper of the Family History. I have been given other family member’s research, photos, and documents, added many of my own and my goal is to, through these posts and stories, share all the information I have with all the family. You are welcome to download photos and make your own copies. I try to be sure to state where my information came from, and I hope you do the same.

Sincerely,

Tina
