PULSATE: A Vampire Musical
Hello! I’m Faith Fossett, the composer, lyricist, and librettist of PULSATE: A Vampire Musical, a progressive electronic dance musical. It is a show that exemplifies my writing and music style, and eagerness to transform musical theater as an innovative female composer in a field dominated by men and traditional structure. The project pulsates (Gasp! That’s the title of the show!) with the music of today, and I aim to prove popular music has a place in musical theatre. The music is composed using real as well as software instruments via a digital audio workstation. I mix the genres of synth-pop, electronica, dream pop, and add in a story flavored with current pop culture and the paranormal romance of vampires and werewolves. PULSATE takes place in a nightclub, a haven for outsiders trying to find community, acceptance, and escape discrimination. With dramatic stylized movement, fight scenes, trapeze, and silks (O00Oooo sexy) this show will be presented as part pop concert, part cabaret style and performed outside the traditional musical theatre formula. The variety of the music reflected throughout the story, coupled with diverse casting, and the ideal non-traditional theatre venue will help cultivate the newer and younger audience that theatre needs. Traditional musical theatre sits audience in chairs, distancing the story and music by putting it on a stage, revealed by a curtain. PULSATE happens in and around the audience, enveloping them. It invites them to dance to the music and become part of the story...
