Play: The Rover
Character: Angelica Bianca
This is my final piece for my Costume course, my period piece! Designed for The Rover play set in 1677 in Naples during carnival time, hence the mask in my hand. In the scene that I chose Angelica, who is a famous and very expensive courtesan, is threatening Wilmore with a gun. He broke her heart and she felt she needed to kill him for the sake of all woman kind.
This dress is made up of 3 skirts, a bodice that had an in built stay (early version of a corset for those unfamiliar) and seperate sleeves. The sleeves are 100% silk, the bodice is silk & lined with lined, which includes 10.5 meters of boning and 100 individual pearls sewn onto each point of the diamond embroidery. It also has a silk and cotton skirt (inner, seen at front only) which is also embroidered with gold thread in a diamond pattern and 139 individual hand sewn pearls. Outer skirt fabric is a beautiful brocade with gold metallic thread through it from New York.
A lot of work has gone into this, hope you like it! 🥰

Lyra photoshoot costume 🖤 one thing I have learnt about costume is it’s not always about making everything. Ordinary I would have made all elements of my costume for this shoot, but I didn’t have time because ironically I was making other costumes 🖤 I sourced the leotard and shorts, but made my headpiece and wings. I also added garters to my shorts and used about 300-350 rhinestones all over. Photo by 🖤
