Farm Update

Green green green oh it is so beautiful to see the green grass growing again, the dams are full and everyone is head down eating and looking good.

New babies are arriving some already here, some any day now ..
Mr Azriel made his appearance as Miss Stephs new side kick and bestest friend .. the girls are not quite impressed but slowly slowly they are coming around lol They have to πŸ’œhow can you not love that adorable little man πŸ’œ. Cottons has new bubs that is just as cute as can be, the sheep have decided to regularly visit and chat and I have been stalking poor boo boo because she is ready to drop any minute now .. everyone else is going to drop their babies in their own damn good time 🀣🀣🀣🀣..

Bubba of course has her own posts πŸ’œ

Leroy is living his life to the fullest even with just 3 legs 🀣🀣 and Lucy is forever trying to take out his back leg left 🀣🀣

The kid is healing well after the rollover and we have a P plater in the family again πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰ .. so proud of how they handle themselves πŸ’œ.

Looking forward to next year when all should be back on track and we can start making beautiful products regularly again πŸ’œ. So much to look forward to with Miss Steph adding her artistic touch and some of her own pieces to the shop.

It has been a rough year but I am looking forward to sharing my half century celebration πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ and Christmas with family. Bring on 2022 and let it be filled with lots of love laughter and joy.. It is about time we celebrate the good things πŸ’œ

Bubba Update Tomorrow

πŸ›‘ EVERYONE IS OK πŸ›‘
A little bruised and battered but ok so please don’t panic or stress. Ok the car isn’t but it’s only a car in the grand scheme of it all. And this mumma aged an extra 30 years for her birthday this coming week 🀣🀣🀣 but apart from that we good 🀣

Today I want to post a stark reminder that farm life, droughts and floods and all else to do in our world can be rocked in the blink of an eye. Your heart can be ripped out without moving an inch in your body out of sheer panic and your world and life just stops for that split second ..

This is the result of a freak accident, a deep rut left behind by flood waters that was visually not too deep but once the hard top on it cracked was in fact quite deep πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ. Enough to overbalance the ute and set in motion a nasty roll in fact it rolled twice .. No sp*eding involved, no hooning just a freak accident.

The kids have plenty of experience driving on properties and know with the current weather to be safe. With at least an hours drive to the nearest hospital this is never what you want to see or hear ..

Your kids are your life πŸ’œ. You need to let them experience life and live it to their fullest potential, they have to make their own mistakes and have their own successes and you have to be their cheerleader and their reality check occasionally πŸ’œ.. but this is always what you worry about as a mum, those sneaky freak events that just floor you ..

So hug those kiddos tight remember to let them know you love them and remember tomorrow is never promised so make sure they know it today.

πŸ’œMine do πŸ’œ

Today I am still trying to understand how anyone could get out of that mess let alone walk away with a torn rotator cuff and bruises.. thinking there might be some really sore battered and bruised angels recovering somewhere .

πŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œ

You know the little baby has ya heart when you put ya fan outside because she is showing a bit of heat stress and your inside sweating balls πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ

Photos from Myrtle Hill Farms's post 30/11/2021

Little Miss says morning after she scoffed her feed .. and I wanted to show you the main application of the cream on her .. she is such a good girl jist stand there to let me do it ..

We will update on the current water situation today .. yes that is correct I can say we have a water situation 😱 24 hrs of constant rain and our small town is flooding we are ok at this point just a few smallish issues on the farm but basically we are stuck here while waters rise and fall.. our concern is for people right in town at the moment they are getting emergency warnings of major river rises. After going through the 2011 floods in Ipswich and the devastation we suffered from those I know exactly how they are feeling at this point and I truly hope the water does not cause another natural disaster for this small town πŸ’œ. I will update in a new post as soon as I can ..

Please be safe if you are in flooded areas,
And don’t be an idiot 🀬 if it is flooded - forget it .. don’t drive through it πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ you
Don’t know if the rushing water has taken out the road before it settled to just still raised flood water. Your life and those in the car with you are not worth the risk πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ

Sorry I am late πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈπŸ€¦β€β™€οΈπŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ Yesterday I was 3 WEEKS OLD πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰
We have been preparing for the rain that never wanted to arrive until last night now bubba can’t even go out to p*e πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈπŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ.. Yes I know she is a calf but she is a baby and vulnerable and in a week or so will move to a pen to live in near the house but right now she is still too little πŸ™„πŸ™„πŸ™„πŸ™„ and it’s raining and, and , and , and , and I just say so 😊.

Little Miss is about to start on calf pellets now in her diet along with fresh hay, grass and 7 litres of milk a day .. yes you read that right this tiny little being drinks 2.5litres for breakfast , 2 litres for lunch and another 2.5 litres for dinner .. for a bit of TMI we are back to solid to semi solid poops 🀣🀣🀣

We have some issues with our coat and hair loss and damn mossies, I have been so incredibly lucky to receive care packages over the last few years from The Finnis family that have included a barrier cream I use regularly and have a few tubes sneaked away for the summer months and I have taken one tube of my stash to share with little bubba to try to relieve her dry spots and give her little body a chance to heal .. so thank you I Kay and Ian for helping not only me but little Miss too πŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œ.. your generosity and thoughtfulness will always be appreciated and remembered.

So for now we are celebrating some beautiful rain , warm milk and loving family to play with .. πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰

We made it to 14 Days old woot woot πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰
We are thinking she was 3-4 weeks premmie so another week or two before she is at her original due date ..

Over 20kg of milk powder already gone 😱.. this girl is loving her bottles - averaging 5 litres a day in feeds πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰ .
We have had a few ups and downs and plenty of worrying nights but she has kept fighting πŸ’œ.

Her hair is growing in her bald spots her ribs don’t show as much and she has a little bit of fat on her πŸ’œ. It is really exhausting doing multiple feeds and care of a premmie calf 😱.. but we are adapting and she is thriving πŸ’œ. Thankfully we got some good rain so the extra loads of washing for her blankets daily are not so stressful πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰.
New bag of milk starting tomorrow so we will see how long that lasts 🀣🀣🀣🀣.. drink pretty girl drink as much as you want .. πŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œ

Thank you to everyone that is helping to support little Miss .. there are plenty of numbers left on the board if you want a chance to name her and help support her milk habit as well 🀣🀣🀣. It will be quite a while before we name her at least another 4-6 weeks as I want to be sure that she gets off to the best start she can πŸ’œ. The early days you can lose the bubbas very quickly for no real reason so I am trying to show a little caution .. I would say I am trying to keep my distance emotionally but I would be lying πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈπŸ€¦β€β™€οΈπŸ€¦β€β™€οΈπŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ.. how can you not fall in love and get emotionally attached to such a tiny dependent little baby πŸ’œπŸ’œ.

Photos from Myrtle Hill Farms's post 19/11/2021

Getting some Vytrate into the little Miss .. 750ml in total went well .. it has been an up and down 24hrs .. she decided to sit out in the shade and pretend we couldn’t see her in the grass πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ. And teddy is guarding the hay to ensure no chickens go near it ..

17/11/2021

Breakfast time .. definitely no issues drinking and is hungry vin the morning 2 litres of yummy warm milk in her belly .. thank you to both of her supporters so far πŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œ.

Photos from Myrtle Hill Farms's post 17/11/2021

I have tried to wait before posting for this little girl πŸ’œ. She is now 9 days old and still very fragile. She was sent to us from another farm, her mumma rejected her and she was premmie .. it has been a long 9 days of feeding washing and cleaning up after poopy bum πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈπŸ€£. Toilet training is not really a specialty for calves πŸ™„. She sleeps on a blanket and that needs to be washed every day .. she has met the big girls through the fence and goes for a walk to see them every day except when she isn’t feeling the best . We are going through water like no tomorrow πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈπŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ.. she drinks more than I do in a day and has more washing done than anyone else in the house 🀣🀣🀣.

So to try to raise some extra funds to help support little Miss we are going to do a 100 board
$5.00 per number

1 winner gets to name this little miss πŸ’œ

If I can put together MyrtleHill gift packs I will try to add 1 or 2 of those to the draw as well.

The money raised will be used to buy her milk powder ($130.00 a bag approx) Hay (how long is a piece of string πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ) and medicines ( vaccine antibiotics etc) she needs.

Please make sure you use your name as reference so I can match payments and β€œbaby” so I can ensure the payment goes to bubba. Please put your numbers requested on this post so I can keep track of which ones have been taken.

Lastly please understand that bubba is very fragile and you can lose a calf in the blink of an eye. I am doing everything I can to give her the best chance to live and grow to be healthy but there are no guarantees.. we have made it 9 days so far and I am hoping for many many more πŸ’œ. Rearing calves is expensive and for us rather unexpected πŸ’œ. But you just can’t pass up that adorable face πŸ’œ

Lest We Forget

In todays world let this also be a reminder to be kind, compassionate and loving.

Hi Everyone what a crazy weekend here OMG .. Seriously if it could go wrong it went wrong πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈπŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ.. Shearer was supposed to shear on today so Yesterday we had a few of us get together as the sheep do not like coming down the front and it is quite the game of hide and seek to even find them then push them down to the pens .. sooo it always helps if you put a responsible person on gate duty or you end up penning them 3 times … then you get the one idiot who didn’t listen to the extreme lecture of soft sand and getting bogged and be careful and blah blah blah … oh how I had to eat my words as I sat there sunk in a dry bog not able to go anywhere while everyone else was getting the sheep through the last stages to the pens .. then again and again oh god πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈπŸ€¦β€β™€οΈπŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ Note to self listen to your own lecture and take notice πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈπŸ€¦β€β™€οΈπŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ.. so get up the next morning take water to sheep to find the goats have broken in and let the damn sheep out .. hell not again .. off we go and after about 4 hours of hide and seek we let the shearer know there would be no shearing today as the score was sheep 1 / Us 0 πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈπŸ€¦β€β™€οΈπŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ.. I’m sure those bastards do a tuck and roll as soon as we are near .. and we don’t even have Leroy here to give us a hand as he is still recuperating with his dad - that actually means running and playing and eating and resting for a few more weeks till he is ready to start looking at working again πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ.. the hay finally arrived and the girls were pretty darn happy but I don’t think it is going to last very long πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈπŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ.. I’m pretty sure we will have baby calves on the ground soon .. they are all looking like it’s time .. I am going to need to rest tomorrow and then I will get into my orders and messages .. I apologise for the delay I wasn’t given a whole lot of notice for shearing 🀣🀣🀣.. and boy I need a bit to get those ratbags in the pens and to keep them there 🀣 .. for now we are all exhausted, the sheep are still woolly and the car is out of the sand bog .. sleep is needed ..

Living his best life with his Dad πŸ’œ.. Will finally got past him to catch a bit of video ..

About Me...

I am a farmer from the Southern Downs in Queensland, I make bath bombs, bath fizz and goats milk soap when I have a reasonable birthing season with the goats. Everything I make from this business is put into carting water and feed to the farm to keep us basically alive until we get a break in this drought. Everything is made by hand on the farm. I am in the process of extending the range. If you are after something special let me know!!!
