I know lots of folks out there have waaaaay more streams but the fact that anyone listens when I’ve spent a year being pretty quiet on the socials and on the road is really something. Thanks for doing the work and seeking me out and listening. It means a lot. ❤️
My best pal is 11 years old. Enjoy these photos of his head draped with a shower curtain all the way back to 2014. It’s kinda his thing.

I truly love to sing. took this photo ‘s album release and wow I look so happy. Haha Thanks for still inviting me out to sing and make music and stuff. ❤️
Thank you for listening to my music in 2022. Thanks for making it possible for me to make a record. Not totally sure what making music looks like for me in the future but I plan to keep making it in some form or fashion. Hope you’ll look for me in the dark corners of the algorithms. I’ll still be in the world. Hoping to be more in the real world and less in this one, so it may take some work on your part to find me but…I’ll still be here. Happy 2023. ❤️
I had the type of fun and joy that gives you a big dumb involuntary grin on Wednesday night. Thank you for having me and especially to and for arranging such beautiful string parts for a couple of Christmas classics with me. What a special night. Honored to share the stage with so many friends, legends, and folks of whom I’m a massive fan. Won’t soon forget it.

Hey folks!
Being an independent artist is difficult. It’s easy to get lost in the sea of content. The good news is, there are ways you can help!
(1) If you’re a Spotify user, you can pre-save my album and have it download to your library automatically on release day! https://show.co/Dz1DBiu
(2) Share my posts! Comment on said posts! Share my videos! Post my songs if you find yourself having a listen! It all matters a great deal more than you think it does.
(3) Invite your friends to the release show. I promise I’ll make you laugh some and if you’re a tender lil heart like me you may cry too but that’s okay cause we will all be together. Playing live shows brings me so much joy and because I don’t tour as often these days, I try to make it count. I would love to see you at Singin River on September 10th to celebrate the record. ❤️ You can get tickets here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/mckenzie-lockhart-album-release-show-tickets-360568799987?utm_source=eventbrite&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=post_publish&utm_content=shortLinkNewEmail

Swipe to see all the wonderful folks who made this song happen!
Also, I have lots to say about this song so start the caption with caution:
I met John Paul White in 2011 (swipe for a throwback of 19 year old me in that moment 😂) when he agreed to sing on another song of mine that I never released (I promised this time would be different). I’ve been a fan ever since. The Civil Wars. His solo career. Him as a human being. Whenever folks find out where I live his is one of the names they like to bring up. I’ve only ever been able to describe him as the truest form of a southern gentleman. He is generous with his time and talent and is still making great music all while passing on his songwriting wisdom to college students at UNA. A sincerely wonderful man. I am floored he said yes to singing on this with me and can’t imagine it with any other voice. Thanks, John.
Now, a thanks to a lot of people I’ve never met as well as many close friends (honestly thank you’s like this are the theme of the record). Somehow this song has made its way to lots of wedding celebrations near and far. I’ve seen it in wedding videos thanks to . I’ve personally sung it for several weddings of both friends and strangers. I cannot tell you how cool it is to find out that a song I wrote about my little engaged-to-Payton feelings in 2016 has woven its way into so many of your own stories. It’s an incredible thing, music. So thank you for listening and dancing with the one you find it easy to love even when it’s hard.
Lastly, someone get this song to Grey’s Anatomy! I mean “Choose me! Love me!” has never had a better soundtrack 😂
I was gonna wait to tell y’all about this next week but like…why wait? My next single is out May 20th!!! It’s a brand new version of “Easy” featuring the one and only Shoals treasure we all know and love… John Paul White!!! I can’t wait for you to hear it! Pre-save it on Spotify now at this link: https://show.co/ThTjpb2

The short version: being a fan is fun and important. Be a fan. Go to shows. Buy the merch.
The long version: The first time I saw live was a few doors down from where this photo was taken. Maybe 20 other people were there sitting on benches with questionable stability. Payton and I were babies just dating. The next couple of times we saw them we lived in Nashville. Hated our lives. They said “we’re moving to Florence, AL and making a record.” We cried and said “let’s go HOME!”
One night I got a text from none other than who’d had a drink with a mutual friend in town and been subsequently introduced to my music. He probably sent a picture of himself crying as an introduction. Since then, the guy has encouraged and challenged me musically and just in life by asking great questions all the time. He’s a thoughtful human being with the best singing voice in the world.
One time I got a call that the opener dropped. Would I be interested in opening the sold out Florence show at 116? LOL YES THX. Nervous. Did it. Grateful.
Had a release show. Will you sing with me? Yes. So fun. So kind. Me dolly. You Porter.
Then this photo. These two survived the pandemic. Near impossible for touring musicians in their position. They booked The Shoals Theater and this town that loves music but sometimes skips the shows SHOWED UP. I sat in my seat next to my mom. We are fans. I’ve always been a fan and becoming a friend and the one who makes the daybreak wrap for them as well as the hugs-in-passing and did-that-new-tattoo-hurt asking kind hasn’t changed my fandom. I still bought a shirt with their faces on it and pre-ordered a signed copy of their record.
Be a fan. Be a friend. Show up. Buy the merch.
Thanks for all the love on “Talk to Me” over the weekend! More on the way! 😏 For now, here are the folks that made this first song happen…
