Dr Rob Yeung
I'm a Chartered Psychologist, coach and conference speaker. I help people to achieve their goals, e. And I've written over 20 books.
As a Chartered Psychologist, I'm often asked to consult, coach and speak on topics ranging from wellbeing and personal effectiveness to leadership, job hunting, high achievement, and the psychology of selling. Over the last decade, I have specialised in research and consulting in the fields of high achievement and peak performance. I work with executives and managing directors, sports people, entertainers and public figures. I also lecture to students at universities and business schools.
In my experience, artificial intelligence has its own psychology: it can be lazy, wrong, and overconfident when wrong.
I'm not much more cautious in using it.
Here's what I've experienced:
AI is making mistakes that are all too human People can be lazy. People can make things up.
Want to REDUCE motivation in your employees?
Research suggests that this is (inadvertently) exactly what some companies may be doing.

I just had another clear out of more psychology/management books from my office bookshelf.
Psychological science changes so quickly. Even books I really liked from just 10 years ago are getting so out of date!
I'm writing slides for a big conference presentation: 'Thinking critically about creativity'.
Some gurus claim to have answers about how to make organisations more creative. But my take is that there are no easy answers!
Just had another booking for me to deliver an online workshop in December. That's me pretty much at full capacity until the start of 2025.
Very fortunate to be "booked and blessed"!
Some companies are getting tougher with work from home rules. But evidence from employers actually shows that it may be counterproductive to do so.

Great problem solvers can generate multiple options when it comes to tackling the situations they face.
How good are you at coming up with lots of options - or do you tend to see only limited routes forwards?

As a psychologist, I see that humans can be flawed, lazy, and overconfident.
But I'm realising that artificial intelligence can be imperfect in the SAME ways. My observations:
AI is making mistakes that are all too human People can be lazy. People can make things up.
"Chase the vision, not the money".
I just came across this by CEO Tony Hsieh.
The advice is good for all of us. Do something we find interesting and we'll make money. But if we only pursue money, we'll get bored and fail.
Chase the Vision - Tony Hsieh (Zappos) Zappos.com CEO Tony Hsieh frequently speaks at entrepreneurship events, where audience members often ask him what business opportunities will make them rich....

There's a quick way and a slow way. But the quick way to gain it also means it's easier to lose.

Is artificial intelligence better than human intelligence?
Certainly, AI can be just as lazy, wrong, and overconfident. Here are my observations:

When we are overwhelmed, we often fall into binary thinking. But taking the time to look at other, intermediate options can often be more helpful.

Narcissists can be a nightmare to work with (or live with in your personal life). Here's a cunning way to spot them:
Spotting the cruelty behind a narcissist's charm Do you work with a narcissist – someone with an undeserved sense of self-importance and a lack of empathy for others? Well, narcissists may have a signature flaw that allows us to spot them – without even meeting them in person. Studying the evidence The evidence that narcissists may have a spec...
Working at home, I am listening to firework sounds inside the house.
Playing them at medium volume for the dog to desensitise him to fireworks. A free playlist from the Dogs Trust if your pup is scared of them. Do READ the pdf guide first! I started the sounds at a very quiet level and made sure the dog was comfortable - then I increase the volume one notch every four days.
Sound therapy and firework training | Dogs Trust Sound therapy can help your dog feel more comfortable with new and scary life noises.
If you want to achieve more, then learn to criticise yourself LESS.

Writing a presentation on 'how to give presentations', I was looking for research on the optimal / max number of words on a slide for readability. There is no evidence-based answer.
How many words do you allow yourself on ONE slide?
We can all learn from sport psychologists.
Here's why I think studying sport psychology turned me into the psychologist that I am:

Are you a perfectionist?
It's NOT a good thing. Research finds that perfectionists actually get WORSE results.
My short summary:
The perfectionist trap Setting yourself challenging but achievable goals works better than striving to be flawless

When you join a new group or team, do you try to take charge or be helpful?
The two are opposite routes to gaining recognition and power.
My thoughts:

Here are the two broad routes for attaining it:
Are you a high achiever who criticises yourself too much?
