We did it! Gavin, Mackenzie, and I started down this path with and in August 2022 and we can now say the Shames Mountain Solar Project is complete and operational. The 3.2 kW solar array and battery bank will be used to power critical systems as well as the caretaker apartment during the off-season.

Super proud of everyone involved for their hard work, this project is estimated to save the Community owned ski hill approximately $2,000 in diesel costs and between 2-4 tonnes of green house gas emissions per year! Not to mention no background noise every time you have to go into the shop!

Big shoutout to all our sponsors, friends, and contributors. We couldn’t have done it without every last one of you! Student Energy, Sirgo Ventures Ltd., Hartman Electric Ltd., McElhanney, District of Kitimat, Triton Environmental, Local Rental Solutions Ltd, Steelhead transport, Westpoint Rentals, the Terrace Community Foundation, and finally all of you who supported through purchasing your Step3 apparel!

You ever see a place and think “man it would be nice if someone built a chairlift there?”

Well now you can bring the chairlift with you, and a map to guide your journey!

Excited to kick these off with all proceeds going to the Shames Mountain Solar Project supported by

Limited quantities so grab one while ya can and never get lost on the hill again!

Pre-orders for our Shames Mountain project hoodie are officially open on our website! Pre-orders help us gauge the interest in a product and reduce potential waste from over ordering so we’re giving a shipping discount to anyone who purchases one early! See our bio for code.

Featuring the classic two seater chair embroidered on the front with an option for the run map or not in the back!

Proceeds from this hoodie will go towards supporting a solar installation that will allow the hill to run critical equipment without the use of diesel generators. This is projected to save 1300 L of diesel annually for a cost savings of about $2,000 and reduction of 3.5 tonnes of GHG emission.

If you haven’t heard… you can win 6 day passes to Shames Mountain valid through March 2024 for just $2! We draw this Tuesday so don’t miss out.

The proceeds from this are going towards a solar project on the caretaker apartment that allows it to become independent of diesel generation for critical systems! The projected savings are over 1000 L of diesel, which amounts to almost $2,000 per year and a reduction of 3.5 tonnes of green house gas emissions annually. Link in bio

We are raffling off two sets of 6 tickets to Shames Mountain valid through March 2024. Only $2 per ticket! Link in bio! The proceeds from this raffle go directly toward funding the Shames Mountain Renewable Energy installation.

This project is scheduled to allow the hill to run the caretaker apartments and critical systems without the use of diesel generators while the lifts aren’t spinning. The reduction of diesel consumption is estimated to be 1,200 L per year amounting to a reduction of $2,000 in operating costs and 4 tonnes of green house gas emission annually.

A big thank you to Triton Environmental for donating the tickets!

A couple shots from our initial site visit to with some great helpers along for the ride!

We get so much snow up here that it curls off the roof and pushes into the wall halfway down! (Hence the dent)

The goal is to build a solar array and battery backup system that will allow the Caretaker to live year round without supplementary diesel power when the hill is not running. This is a work in progress and we’ll keep you updated as work continues!

A quick update on our off grid setup on Vancouver Island - the team at have upgraded the mount and installled a more permanent antenna in the river to count fish year round for the next couple years. Thanks for the pictures and the update, stoked to see our equipment being used!

About the Project

Step3Project was started with the belief that the world we live in is not only our home but our playground. It is time for us to take responsibility for the affects of the industrial revolution and start our own generational revolution. Our mission is to make supporting renewable energy and environmental sustainability visible and accessible.

To do our part and give you an opportunity to help, we have set a goal of providing 3 watts of renewable energy generation for every item that is sold. To accomplish this, Step3 uses a large portion of the profits from selling our apparel to buy renewable energy infrastructure or other sustainable technologies. This includes anything from windmills to solar panels to LED lights. To put it in perspective, when you make a purchase you also buy one thirtieth of a solar panel. That means that after thirty other purchases, Step3 can buy a solar panel and install at a site that will benefit from renewable energy. That solar panel will then generate renewable energy for the rest of its operational life meaning that your purchase will provide 3 watt hours for every hour of operation.

Your purchase will create the energy to run an average light bulb for 6500 hours, toast 7600 pieces of bread or do 212 loads of laundry. Without the need of constantly removing resources from the planet.
