🎗️ Through the Waiting: A Shared Journey🎗️
As I approached my first mammogram, a mix of emotions flooded over me – excitement to find answers to persistent pain, nervousness about potential findings, and a lingering fear of facing another battle with cancer. Little did I know, this journey would not be one walked alone.
The day unfolded with a mammogram and an ultrasound, both revealing more questions than answers. In the waiting room, I found unexpected solace. It became a haven, a support group where four of us, facing our own uncertainties, shared our stories, fears, and hopes. In that room, we weren’t alone in our journeys.
My biopsy was scheduled for after the holidays, a conscious decision to preserve joy during a season that means so much to us all. In the waiting period, I clung to positivity, prayer, and the semblance of normalcy in my life. I stood bravely in the face of adversity, acknowledging the range of emotions – from tears to pleas for a favorable outcome.
Here’s a truth I want to share: No matter what you’re going through, there are others who can relate. You never have to face it alone. The waiting room became a microcosm of shared strength, a reminder that, in our vulnerability, we find connection. Whether it’s the support of loved ones, the understanding nods of strangers, or the shared stories that echo our own, there’s power in solidarity.
Through my experience, I discovered that the waiting is not just about uncertainty; it’s about shared humanity. The more we open up, share, and support each other, the less daunting the journey becomes. Reach out, connect, and remember, you’re never alone in the waiting.
Let’s face the unknown together with courage and compassion. 💙
🌈 **A Bittersweet Farewell and a Promise of Return** 🌈
As I reflect on my last day in the clinic before a brief pause for surgery and healing, my heart is filled with a mix of emotions. Saying goodbye to the families I adore and the work I’m passionate about is bittersweet. The exhaustion is real, but so is the love I have for being a midwife.
On that poignant day, a rainbow graced the sky, serving as a powerful symbol. It reminded me that just like the spectrum of colors in a rainbow, my journey through breast cancer will bring various experiences. I’ll grow, change, and eventually find myself in a different place.
I’ve been wrestling with fear and reluctance about undergoing general anesthesia, spending days dreading and shedding tears. But when I saw that rainbow, I felt a reassurance from a higher power. It whispered to me to trust, that I would be alright.
As I entered the hospital, anxiety about pain lingered, but a newfound ease about going under took over. Trust, though not new, found a renewed strength in my faith.
To my dear clients, I want you to know that this pause is temporary. I’ll be back, ready to continue providing care and support on your unique journeys. Despite the challenges, my commitment to you remains unwavering. This is not goodbye, but a brief intermission. We’ll navigate through this, and I’ll be back stronger than ever.
Thank you for your understanding and support. Here’s to resilience, faith, and the promise of a brighter tomorrow. 🌟

🌸 **Embracing Early Detection: My Breast Cancer Journey** 🌸
As a home birth midwife, I’ve dedicated my life to supporting birthing folks through one of the most transformative experiences. Today, I’m sharing a different kind of journey – my personal battle with breast cancer.
Cancer doesn’t discriminate, and it’s a reality we all need to face. That’s why, as a midwife, I urge everyone with breast tissue to prioritize self-awareness and regular self-breast exams. In my line of work, I routinely conduct breast exams during well-person check-ups, understanding the importance of knowing one’s body intimately.
My own experience with leukemia taught me the profound impact understanding your body can have. Recently, during a self-breast exam, I noticed an unusual amount of pain. Thanks to my heightened awareness, I sought help promptly.
Here’s a fact that I want to share with you all: The 5-year survival rate for breast cancer is 91%. That’s a statistic we should hold onto with hope and encouragement. It tells us that early detection makes a significant difference. Cancer is a battle, but it’s not always the end of the world, especially when caught early.
I share my story not to instill fear but to encourage you to prioritize your health. Don’t hesitate to get checked or screened because, in the majority of cases, survival is on our side. Knowing your body and identifying changes early can make all the difference.
Let’s spread awareness, embrace early detection, and support each other through our health journeys. Together, we can face the challenges and emerge stronger. 💖

A gift from a client. While they are always appreciated they are never expected. These beautifully scented bath salts came in handy after a long few days supporting clients. These bath salts made me so happy and helped me relax and rejuvenate.
While at City of Hope I stumbled across this lactation booth. I was so excited to see COH provide a private space for lactating people to feed their babies. We need to see more of these.
