There were actually stations that "missed" Valentines, which I can understand. They change the date every year. They should pick one and stick with it. There were some great "anti-romance" things done by KSON, B-105 and 'DJX. But this was my favorite VD event from 2024: The Cupid Crawl at 97.1 ZHT in SLC where 97 people in plastic onesies crawled through a pile of fake snow in the middle of a mall to try and win jewelry from a client.

A couple of days until the Game. For a lot of people who aren't in KC or the Bay Area, it's about food, the commercials and halftime. Hot in Phoenix is delivering food to parties from Canes under the banner "Taylor-gate." VGS in Vegas is using that as a morning show contest this week where they're unloading Taylor's records.

WFLZ in Tampa is using a 100 grid board and a deck of cards to award tickets on Sunday based on the scores after the quarters, the half and the final score.

Energy 92.1 in Myrtle Beach is doing a contest to guess how many times Taylor will get cut to during the game on Sunday.

It's hard to imagine losing a co-worker. Moon battled MS for 20 years, 17 of them while part of the ratings beheemoth Moon & Staci PM Drive show at KS95 in the Twin Cities. A wonderful, gracious and funny man, he had to finally retire two years ago. He passed away last night and today Hubbard in the Twin Cities honored him with digital outdoor.

"Shot Through The Heart" is the ultimate Anti-Valentines event: people bring their mementos from past relationships down to a gun range and blast the crap out of them. It was first done at a station in Houston where the PD told me, "We have a gun range that wants to do something for Valentines. What'chu got?" When they did it there was one woman who was very focused on the job. Before each shot she would dedicate it to something like "This is for the time you forgot your wallet and I had to pay for dinner"...BOOM. I asked the PD who that nut was and he said, "Sales Manager."

Winter weather usually = big days on social media because that's kind of where people will just camp out. I was looking for "fish fry" images for one of my clients and found this filed under "fish". I was at Cox in Richmond and was on-site at a Chris Brown show in the early afternoon, helping to set up outside. Radio One was there and everything was great and cordial between the two teams...and then a third station rolled up. And they were kind of being tools. That didn't seem right, so I went around the corner to a grocery store and bought a pound of the cheapest fish I could find and some buttermilk. I wasn't wearing a station shirt so I scattered the fish in the bushes behind their canopy and some of it may have ended up in the grill of their van. The buttermilk was poured into a garbage can about four feet from their set-up. And it was August. In Richmond. Maturity is highly over-rated.

Merry Christmas to all of the Radio People working today. In Promotions I wouldn't necessarily be at the station on the 25th (there were a few years that I was), but the schedule in the four weeks leading up to it was inevitably insane with a hundred events, and the week after it was usually nuts. At 6 am on New Years Day, the guy who was my Mr. Myagi shook my hand and told me to go home and sleep until the Super Bowl. It's 24/7/365 medium so thank you to the people doing the work on a day that no one else wants to!

Half the people I know in Radio. me included, were inspired to go into it because of WKRP. Every November there is, as there should be, a tsunami of turkey drop posts. Power 106 in LA actually had a very similar "event" albeit with paper turkeys dropped from a helicopter. Next to a school playground. What could go wrong, right? My favorite Twin Cities radio break today was on KOOL 108 in PM drive when the talent recommended Post Road and a few other places near MSP to park and wait for the "We got our luggage at baggage claim and will be at Delta door three in a minute" text from the people you're assigned to pick up. So freaking locally specific. You'd have to be here to understand how much he nailed it. It's the Most Topical Time Of The Year.

The "Clouds" story at KS95 in the Twin Cities is an amazing journey. Twelve years ago they heard about a local 12th grader who was terminally ill and they helped him get his music recorded before he passed. His song went to #1 on Spotify and every year, accompanied by 5000 choir members, they take over the rotunda at Mall Of America to celebrate his music and life. And in a day they raised $1 million dollars for cancer research

Today was my first day working with WFLZ in Tampa and during my a phone call with Tommy Chuck, the fire alarm in my hotel went off. That feels like a good omen, to paraphrase Ty Webb, "in Haiti."

The sign of a great promotion is that almost a decade later people will still ask you about it. Like the time that Mike Kannon and I banner-towed Charlie Sheen's house. The first attempt in the morning was cancelled because of an inversion layer. We tried again in the afternoon and I was texting with the pilot and he sent "He sees me". I replied, "Who?" He wrote back "Charlie. He's waving". And at that moment they called from Philly to say, "He's on the phone!". For 45 minutes the guy who was the #1 news story talked unscripted with the station during PM drive. He referred to us as "Vatican assassins". I want that on my tombstone.
