Huge thanks to our our team of toileteers today who came out in support of our campaign for Changing Places . West Lindsey is one of the last areas in the UK with no Changing Places toilets across the entire district and despite receiving millions of investment from levelling up.

The Cinema should have had Changing Places in the first set of plans as per building regulations.

Our simple message is, why have we and our loved ones been forgotten ?

Thank you so much to the Deputy Mayor, town and district councillors, CP consortium and residents for giving your time and support today.

This Friday, 19th July is Changing Places toilet awareness day. On the lead up to the big day we will be sharing some statistics.

This statistic shows the shocking lack of pubs and restaurants in the UK.

Delighted to visit a busy Retford Railway Station today and see progress of their Changing Places toilet on platform 1!

*** Please be aware it is not open to the public yet, as there are a few additions to complete ***

This toilet will also assist and enable individuals from Gainsborough and elsewhere to connect to other rail networks at Retford.

Both Newark and Wakefield will have Changing Places toilets and provision is improving on other networks.

It really does open up the world to us!

The Changing Places toilet Retford Railway Station was funded by DLUHC and LNER and has been installed by RISE Adaptations.

Thank you To Friends Of Retford Station and North Notts & Lincs Community Rail Partnership (NNLCRP) and Bassetlaw District Council.

We are really looking forward to seeing it open to the public and enjoy some new adventures!

It is imperative that ALL hospitals and medical centres have Changing Places toilets so that disabled people can attend appointments, receive medical care when needed and visit loved ones when unwell.

Changing Lives With Changing Places 🚽

It is Changing Places Awareness Day on Friday. In the UK, more than 300,000 individuals require Changing Places toilets for their everyday care. These specialised facilities go beyond standard accessibility, offering essential features like hoists, adult-sized changing benches, and space for carers.

However, the reality remains concerning: there are only around 2,000 Changing Places toilets nationwide. In some regions, access to these vital facilities is nonexistent, posing significant challenges for individuals with disabilities and their caregivers.

As advocates for inclusivity and improved care, it's crucial that we work together to bridge this gap. Every person deserves the care and support that Changing Places toilets provide.

Astor Bannerman are the leading UK manufacturer producing the full range of capital equipment specified in a Changing Places Toilet (CPT). We offer the technical insight, product innovation and design & planning expertise to successfully supply and install CPTs in the UK, so if you are looking for help or advice for your upcoming Changing Places project, get in touch via our website

The kit has been located in the loft of doom! 😃

We are also seriously impressed with the T shirt Glitterati from one of our group members! 💙

Never thought the ‘loo kit’ would need to see the light again, but West Lindsey is one of the last areas in the UK with no Changing Places toilets.

Please come and support us on Friday 19th July for the national awareness day!

10 AM - Marshall’s Yard - Water Fountain.
We will be having some photos taken and making our way around Gainsborough Town.

We have contacted MP Sir Edward Leigh for Gainsborough today and Rishi Sunak MP for support and further clarification of building regulations which were changed in January 2021.

Building regulations that were not followed correctly by West Lindsey District Council on the first set of approved plans for the new Cinema.

Rishi Sunak was instrumental in changing legislation for Changing Places with cross party support, and the tenacity and perseverance from UK campaigners.

Here in Gainsborough, we are resolute in our pursuit for truth and transparency as to why Changing Places toilets were not an integral feature in the Cinema development. As it should have been. When the new legislation came into force..

We have requested for this to be put in front of the Overview and Scrutiny Committee at WLDC.

Changing Places are a mandatory requirement in new large public buildings. For new cinemas, capacities should be derived from the combined total of a building’s publicly accessible facilities. Alternatively, the capacity number may be taken as the number of fixed seats provided, (350 or more people) if the occupants of the building would normally be seated.

Dec 2021
WLDC approved plans for the cinema, it has 385 fixed seats on the drawings, meeting the requirement for a changing places toilet.

The plans DO NOT have a changing places toilet facility on it. This contravenes building regulations.

February 2024
WLDC produce a new set of plans which have 341 fixed seats. 9 short from the legislative requirement for CPT.

However, the cinema boasts of an extra party room , holding approx 34 people.

WLDC have told us that the extra party room, is *double counting, that when it comes to capacity numbers, they say that those that use the party room have already been seated in the cinema.

?????

We think this isn’t right as the party room can be in use while other cinema goers are seated watching films.

Welcome your thoughts on this!

🎾

Please do support us on the 19th July for awareness day. We are meeting at 10Am at Marshall’s Yard (Fountain) and will be visiting a few key locations in the local vicinity.

Everyone deserves to enjoy a movie! But what if there is no toilet at the you can use?

Hundreds of thousands of disabled people and their families require toilets, with a height-adjustable changing bed and hoist, to enable them to access the loo. Yet there are very few of them at cinemas!

Without these vital pieces of equipment, children and adults are faced with the indignity of lying on urine-soaked toilet floors to have continence items changed, being dangerously lifted, sitting in their own waste, risking their health by withholding fluids or not going to the cinema at all!

We have been championing the Changing Places UK campaign since it began and have installed around 500 facilities across the UK. We would welcome a conversation with any cinema venue that believes everyone should have access to the movies. Together we can help make that happen.

See our Changing Places Awareness page for the full story behind the 'loo selfies' and other real-life experiences shared by those who need these life-changing toilets.
