Celebrating Independence Day with the Sweetness of Giving: Annual Tribute for Modern Heroes

June 12, 2023, is the 125th anniversary of Philippine Independence and Nationhood. This is the time for celebration and reflection as we come together to honor the birth of our liberty and the sacrifices of those who came before us.

As a celebration of modern independence, the Youth for Peace Movement (YFPM) Mabini Chapter in partnership with Charlie Company of 25th Infantry โ€œFireballโ€ Battalion, celebrating its annual tradition of giving chocolates for modern heroes who tirelessly work to keep our country safe, secure and prosperous, the volunteers distributed chocolates attached with pieces of appreciation cards within the municipality because they believe that chocolates were a symbol of appreciation and gratitude for centuries and they believe that there is no better way to show the organizationโ€™s admiration for our modern heroes than by sharing the sweetness of giving. Whether they are firefighters, police officers, healthcare workers, military personnel, teachers, our modern heroes deserve to be recognized and appreciated for their hard work and dedication.

โ€œYour best will always be more than โ€˜good enoughโ€™ and although these chocolates might be a small thing, but we believe it is the thought that counts. Thank you all so much!โ€, remarked Ms. Cristy Fannie Bonotan, YFPM Mabini former President.

She also emphasized the importance of honoring those who serve and give their all to the communities and may this initiative be an example to every person especially the youth by also doing their part. By giving chocolates, we can sweeten the celebration and show our appreciation for their hard work and dedication.

Let us continue this tradition for years to come and honor those who keep our barangays, municipality, province, and country strong and free.

Meanwhile, after the distribution, the set of officers together with the organizationโ€™s members is set to focus on conducting their upcoming activities especially in conducting this yearโ€™s youth leadership summit.

|| Three Secondary School joins Campus Peace Symposium

Mabini, DdO| Youth for Peace Movement Mabini Chapter visits three (3) secondary schools in the municipality namely, Corjesu High School, Golden Valley National High School and Mabini National High School for the provincial-wide conduct of Campus Peace Symposium.

Friday, October 14, Mabini National High School students participate in lectures with YFPM volunteers and resource speakers partnered to discuss certain issues and concerns on youth pertaining to peace-building and how they can help themeselves against left-leaning recruitments.

"Hopefully, you will serve as channel of peace in the community and hopefully you spread the good news you learn here to your classmates, friends, groups and to your community", Teodora P. Baring, Principal III of MNHS said.

Last October 6, YFPM visits Cor Jesu High School and on October 7 in Golden Valley National High School brought the same objective, gathering the in-school youth to participate in lectures about peace-building.

"Ang illegal na droga salot sa bayan", PSG Benjie R Cuanan said during his lecture on Anti-Drug Abuse. The organization believes that lack of youth participation in drug prevention programmes has other negative implications to peace in school and community.

Meanwhile, PVT Elbert Jhan P Baybay of 28th IB, expresses his support to YFPM Mabini, and gratitude to the students of CHS and MNHS who took part in the said program.

"Ang kabataang may direksyon sa buhay ay ang totoong pag-asa ng bayan", PVT Baybay said.

It can be remebered last September 29, the pilot-launching of CPS in the municipality was in Pindasan National High School.

The CPS was anchored with its objective, to honor, support, and sustain an insurgency-free Province of Davao de Oro by encouraging students to participate in nation-building programs and debunking deceptive approach of CTGs.

|| Peace Symposium reopens for in-school youth in Mabini

Youth for Peace Movement-Mabini Chapter conducted Campus Peace Symposium (CPS) in Pindasan National High School, Pindasan, Mabini, Davao de Oro last Saturday, September 29.

The CPS is a one-day gathering that gives students a forum for participating in discussions about peacebuilding through workshops, lectures, teambuilding exercises, and more. The purpose of this is to honor and sustain an insurgency-free Davao de Oro. The theme for this year's Peace Consciousness Month is "Cultivating the Zones of Peace to Sustain an Insurgency-Free Davao de Oro."

"Being a volunteer is a fulfilling job.", Pvt Elbert Jhan V Baybay said as the AFP recognizes the effort of Youth for Peace Movement initiating forums to in-school-youth as the youth is the most vulnerable sector in deceptive approach of the CTGs.

The goal of CPS is outlined as "SAVE," which stands for "Support, Acquaint, Vitalize, and Encourage." With support, the government is working to protect the students from the influence of the CTG. Acquaint students with the current issues in the nation and how they can support them without violence. Vitalize them as advocates and conduits of peace and in order of their respective schools. Encourage the students to participate in nation building and prevent CTG recruitment in school.

The said CPS is in close partnership with the Pindasan National High School spearheaded by Mr. Rolando C. Noces-School Principal II, PNP-Mabini, and 28th Infantry Battalion.

Pindasan National High School is one of the 55 secondary schools to participate in provincial-wide conduct of CPS. In the municipality, YFPM-Mabini targets to conduct the activity in all the secondary schools including the schools in upland barangays.
