Shetland Swimming
Up to date information on swimming in Shetland
Congratulations to Erik Kiszel of Shetland ACSC who broke the 10 year old boys Shetland record for 100m backstroke at the T L Dallas Midsummer Meet at the weekend. ππ₯
Well done Holly today coming in under 3 hours great swim.
This weekend, sees Holly from Delting Dolphins competing at SNOWs (Scottish National Open Water). The first entry from a Shetland swimmer at this event and hopefully the start of an Open Water program among the Shetland Clubs. She is swimming the 10k tomorrow morning.
We have teamed up with the Open project to create a sports peer mentoring programme π
If you or someone from your sport would be interested in becoming a mentor or being a mentee on the programme please get in touch with Jack Clubb at [email protected]
County and County Dev are on as normal today
Shetland swimmers, led by captains Magnus Bullough and Caoilinn Robinson kicked of the 2nd day of the JIC with a strong performance in the pool breaking an intercounty record in the process. ππ
This was the third year in a row that Shetland have broken the 100m backstroke record, Finlay Geddes breaking the record set by Robbie Thomson in 2023.
As well as the new records, in a day of strong racing, and close fought contests, there were a total of 13 personal best times from the Shetland swimmers.
This young team included 2 x 13 year olds and 1 x 12 year old, Signe Bullough who was the youngest competitor at this year's junior intercounty joining her older brothers Lockie and Magnus in the swim team.
The team competed exceptionally well, they gave their all, it was a real duel in the pool, often the points were decided by hundredths of a seconds.
ππA heartfelt well done to our county team as a coaching team we could have asked no more of you, you were awesome Magnus, Bethany, Abbie, Ceoilinn, Rhona, Finlay, Caitlin, Kayla, Angelika, Kari, Connor, Tyler, Lockie, Carys, Julian, Calum, Signe ππ
The whole team would like to express their sincere thanks to the competitors and spectators who came to watch, creating the most special atmosphere. At one point the decibel reading on the coaches watch reached over 100 decibels . Thanks to the officials and time keepers, without whom the event could not take place. Also, thanks must go to the swimming coaches in all the Shetland clubs for their hard work and commitment throughout the year.
Finally, a big thank you to the Orkney team for an exciting day or racing and as always great friendships and fun NorthLink Ferries Orkney Amateur Swimming Club
