We don't give the color blue the credit it deserves for the different types of emotion it can evoke inside us. ✨

On one hand, blue can be a power color. One that many tech companies lean into to show off strength, trust, and confidence.

On the other hand, blue can evoke feelings of peace, tranquility, and order.

For me, today's color palette covers all of that and more. It exudes confidence, trust, order, and peace while also lending a more moody side that I just can't get enough of.

Purple is my favorite color, and one that I have made a focal point in my personal brand. It's an on-going joke with those that I work with as to how purple will appear when I show up... my clothing, my journal, my pens, my bag.

I love this fresh take on a lavender field with those bright, cool tones of purple and green. Even as we enter fall, this palette gives me all the spring vibes and feelings of a fresh start. 💜

Today's palette is inspired by the cool tones tropical waters complemented by the warm tones of pottery, fall leaves, and honey. And this lil Kingfisher brings it all together.

I've been playing around with color palettes lately. It's one of my favorite parts of the brand design process. ✨

Take the time you need to recharge your mind, body, and soul.

This has been an unexpectedly tough year.

I don't know if it is two years of pandemic that utterly exhausted us. Then trying to move as fast as we can back to some kind of normalcy.

I don't know if I'm still grieving over what I perceive as a loss of time, traditions, and activities. Or if I'm just cranky to move on already. Or if I'm completely mentally burnt.

Maybe it's all of these things and more.

Whatever it is, I still feel like I'm on the verge of tears most days of the week.

I'm unsettled, fatigued, irritated, and anxious with bouts of joy and laughter in between. I feel like I'm on a rollercoaster. It's not normal for me, and I'm impatient trying to navigate through it all.

In spite of all the feelings, I'm still trying to push myself professionally, personally, as a wife, as a mother, as a daughter, and as a friend.

Here's what I know. 👉🏻 I'm not giving myself time to FULLY disconnect and recharge.

I don't know why I've been so resistant to fully disconnecting, but I have. With everything going on in the world, I feel like I need to bear witness to it all.

It's too much. My mind and my body have had enough.

This last month, my family and I took off. I tried to disconnect myself as often as I could.

We traveled together.
We played games. We read books. We drew. We explored.
We walked. We hiked. We rock jumped down the river. We floated on the lake.
We ate together, drank together, and celebrated together.

Now that we're back, I have been reflecting a lot about what it means to truly take time off. Here are my new goals for my business.

✓ Disconnect more often, even if it means doing it in small bits of time.
✓ Create a 4-day work week so that I have more time for myself and my family.
✓ Schedule our next vacation so that we have something to look forward to.

The Fourth of July is my favorite holiday. I love all of the pomp and circumstance. The BBQs, parades, and festivals...

For me, though, it's the moments of reflection that really make this day special.

I think about freedom... what it is, what it isn't, and how it really isn't free. It takes work, love, and sacrifice from each and every one of us.

I think about how grateful I am that my family and I are warm, healthy, happy, and safe. I know not everyone is experiencing the same.

I think of my grandpa. I think about his survival at Pearl Harbor while serving his country. I think about the fun I used to have visiting with him. And I think about how fitting it is that he passed on this very day 23 years ago while the fireworks lit up the sky.

Whatever you do to celebrate and commemorate the day, I hope that it is memorable, safe, and full of joy.

There was a time when I commuted with my toddler.

Up until the age of 2, my daughter joined me in the car for a 1 hour ride into work and the 1 to 2 hours home.

If you're a parent, you know the struggle is real.

And if you are currently commuting with your kiddos, I'm sending you all the love and light in my heart. 💜

My parents helped care for her on the days that my husband worked and they just so happened to live near my workplace.

I felt lucky and unlucky all at the same time.

I tried to make the most of the situation. We listened to the radio, sang, and chatted (though it was more listening than talking with a toddler). 😂

But it wasn't the kind of quality time I wanted to spend with her.

It felt absolutely unnatural to do part of my parenting from the driver's seat of a car.

Add to this that I became pregnant with my son at the time...

When I was laid off from my job, I had a choice to make.

The choice was easy. Because this time I made the choice based on my quality of life and that of my family's. I knew what I wanted for all of us, and this was definitely not it.

I took a leap of faith, started my own consulting business, and never looked back.

I'm proud of the hurdles and mountains that I've overcome. In fact, I prefer those experiences to the ones I would have had commuting to a corporate job.

And because of what I've battled through, I'm now able to teach and share what I know to other female entrepreneurs and business owners.
