Fat loss vs lean muscle building.
Notice the growth in the arms and glutes in he pic on the right. When I have clients tell me they want to “lose weight” and have been doing excessive amounts of cardio, they are sometimes surprised at the way their body looks when body fat begins to melt away. “I want to tone up” is another phrase I hear a lot. Most people assume that when they lose weight they will have good muscle tone and sometimes this isn’t the case, especially if they haven’t been doing any type of resistance training.
What we are really wanting to do is change body composition, not necessarily aim for a number on the scale and expect that to be what makes us happy.
Sometimes being “skinny” or hitting a certain number doesn’t necessarily bring us the feelings we think it will.
Being healthy and happy with your body should be the goal.
If you’re wondering whether or not the struggles are worth it, they absolutely are. But the thing is, it doesn’t have to be all struggle. I’ve done all the things, had all the complications, hit all the walls. I’ve been there and back. I believe this is what makes me a good coach. I can relate. I can offer my clients the benefit of personal experience. I’ve recently added another certification to my resume (Fitness Nutrition Specialist) and I can’t wait to help more folks on their own journeys to healthier lifestyles. After 6 years of focusing hard on my fitness and nutrition, the photo on the right is me today. I’m still reaching toward goals, still putting in the work and pushing myself. The journey continues!
