Hello Parents,

This is Mrs. Clay at Buhl Elementary. We were directed to let you know that the absolute final deadline for letting us know that you need to check out a device for remote learning is this Wednesday, August 12th. We have to begin to gather the devices to prepare and send home with those who chose remote learning.

* Also, if your child plans on attending the Club Bulldog After School Program, the deadline to apply in order to receive transportation by the school bus, is this Wednesday, August 12th. Pre-k students can attend the program but cannot ride the bus because there are no seatbelts. Applications are available in the front of the school in the plastic tubs.

* Open House for Prek is this Thursday, August 13th at 5:30 in the gym. Please limit guest to no more than two per child. Adults, please wear a mask to the event.

* Open House for Kindergarten is this Friday, August 14th at 5:00 in the gym. Please limit guests to no more than two per child. Adults, please wear a mask to the event.

* Student welcome letters from teachers will be mailed tomorrow for all students who have been registered in InfoSnap.

*Teachers in grades 1st-4th will create a video to share of their classroom. These videos will be posted on the school's website.

* The school supply delivery drop will be August 18th from 8:00-5:00 in the gym. Please label the bag/supplies with your child's name and teacher. We will deliver the supplies to your child's classroom.

*Unfortunately, no one is allowed to walk their child to class on the first day of school. We are hoping this is just for a season. We can't wait to have each of you visit our school as soon as they allow us to open.

*As of today, August 10th, all students in second grade and up will required to wear masks. We will give students opportunities throughout the day to take them off. Every grade will take the students out for recess daily which will provide another opportunity for the students to take their masks off.

* Prek morning and afternoon drop off will be at the front of the school. We ask that you do not pull in the parking lot until after 7:45 a.m. and 2:45 p.m. so the busses can pick up students first. You can park in the parking lot until after the busses are gone. Thank you for your attention.

* We know that we are faced with many uncertainties this school year. But we have been blessed with the best students, teachers, and parents! Together we will make it through, and come out stronger than ever! Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Please share this information!!

* If you have any questions or concerns, don't hesitate to call the school at 342-2640 or email me at [email protected]

For your planning purposes: This is for parents of students in grades Kindergarten-4th grade. There will be a drive-thru school supply drop off August 18th from 8:00-5:00 in the gym. You will simply stay in your car and drive around to the large blue doors located at the back of the gym. Staff will be available to accept the materials and transport to the classroom. Please have all items in a large trash bag with your child’s name on the outside of the bag. Everyone should know who the child’s teacher will be by then, so please include the teachers name as well.

There is no supply list for Prek.
There will be an on-site Orientation/Open House for parents and students of Prek and Kindergarten. Additional information coming soon!

School Supply lists are posted on the Buhl Elementary School website and page.

Hello parents,

As of today, we only have 93 students registered in InfoSnap for the upcoming school year. I just wanted to remind you that your child will not receive a welcome letter from their teacher (if the grade level sends letters) nor will your child’s name be posted in a class until he/she is registered. Registering your child does not take a long time. If you have lost your InfoSnap code, please contact the school today. Ms. Renee will be at school until 3:00. Please let us know how we can help. We want to make sure we are prepared to begin school in August. Thanks for your attention and support. Please, please, please, help spread the word.

🍎 From Mrs. Clay 🍎

I hope that each of you are doing well. I just wanted to share some information I just received during the elementary principal’s planning meeting with our new superintendent, Dr. Johnson. She said the Plan for re-entry to school for the Tuscaloosa County School System will hopefully be rolled out by July 15th. Each school will have flexibility on some of the plan but some things will be required for each and every school in our district. Please be patient with us! The district will send you a survey later today that will ask you for the following information: School name, grade of child, do you have internet access, do you have a dependable device, and will your child be a virtual learner or a traditional learner. Virtual learning is strictly that, this will be learning at home using the internet. Traditional learning, is of course, attending school face to face, on campus. I wanted you to realize what virtual learning actually will look like for our district. It will not be something that your child will do if they are sick and unable to come to school (in the place of coming to school) for a couple of days. If you choose virtual learning, it is my understanding, that you will be required to stay a virtual learner. We aren’t exactly sure if it’s a commitment for nine weeks or a semester. We will let you know as soon as we hear. The district is working on helping schools provide devices (for check-out) to those who are interested in virtual learning but do not have a device. There is only a short time frame for the survey to be completed. It will open today and close on Friday. Please, please, please take the survey and tell others to do so as well. The results from this survey could determine how many teaching units we will have this school year.
Thank you for your support in advance. Hang on, it’s going to be a bumpy ride, at first, but we are strong and will make it through together! I appreciate each and every one of you!!

Sincerely,
Vanessa Clay

We all know students need to be reading, but with libraries closed and people staying home, getting appropriate books in their hands can be hard.

Here is a FREE way to get access to over 35,000 books. All you have to do is message me your email.

The app, Epic, is offering free home access until June 30, but it is by teacher invitation only. You can also access it online by going to https://www.getepic.com/sign-in. If you download the app on your own and sign up, you have to put in your credit card. If I invite you through email to our class page (where I’ve already set up an account for your child) you get free access until the end of June and don’t have to enter a credit card...according to their website. I’d love to try and see if it works for y’all!

📚 📚📚**Please message me an email address to get your child started.**📚📚📚

On my end, I can see what they are reading and how much they read! Also, notice students can read independently or click the “read to me” button, for harder texts.
