Planning the layout for a pair of pillows with this beautiful embroidered whimsical fabric! Which critters would you keep and which ones would you cut?

I had the best day yesterday! I met up with my new local upholstery friend, Alisa Moore and we went to the where we got to meet Sara McDaniel of AND Hector Sanchez of
Sara and Hector are so genuine and authentic! We chatted for about 10 minutes and I felt like I’d known them forever! Good People!
In this thanksgiving week I’m so thankful for all my upholstery friends! It’s so special to have local friends to go fabric shopping with and work on projects together and just meet up and talk shop! Alisa, I’m so glad we finally got to meet!

Brittany finishing up her chair! Check out the curves on this frame! So unique and pretty!
She’s coming back in a few weeks to tackle an even more advanced project! I need to brush up my skills to keep up with her! 😜

31/10/2023

Well this chair is a bit spooky looking in its present state but I’ll get her fixed up real pretty! She’ll have to get in line to wait her turn but that’s okay!
I want her to be a show stopper! What color scheme should I use?

In September, Elaine drove all the way to Nashville from Orlando with her gorgeous chair in tow!
You definitely can’t judge this book by its cover cause this chair had a unique frame design that threw us a few curve balls. The finished chair is so beautiful from Elaine’s painted finish to her fabric choice to the upholstery work! You did so good Elaine! Be proud!💙
Are you wanting to learn advanced upholstery skills? I’d love to work with you!

I had so much fun working with these ladies today! We finished their tuffets, tomorrow we’ll finish up their matching chairs!

And, ladies and gentlemen, tuffets are complete. Tomorrow we finish our chairs! Thank you !

Last month Amy spent a week with me all the way from Phoenix! So we packed all the learning we could into the five days. We tied springs, learned about different types of easement cuts, cushions and here Amy is working on a sewn in arm. Wingbacks have lots to teach, and so do I!
Hands on upholstery education is hard to come by. Don’t be afraid to travel for it, it will be worth it!
What do you want to learn?

So many of you have asked about how Hank is enjoying this cushion! Truth is he wasn’t to happy being my model!😝 So he initially avoided the cushion completely! But he has recently been spotted on the cushion with muddy feet! 🙄 Hank says revenge is sweet! 😆
Actually I think he likes it now!

Large pattern repeats make such a dramatic statement! They can be a bit more work to estimate yardage and figure out matching, but boy are they worth it!💙

09/09/2023

How cute is this tuffet? This was a fun easy project that used up scraps of fabric and was completed in one weekend!
I’m teaching at creative weekend retreat where we’ll make these cuties!
Check out for more info!

Monday’s student was Brittany! Just zoom in and look at the details of the chair! Do you see it? That curly q detail in the wood! That’s not easy stuff but look at the results! Brittany did a fabulous job. We’ll be finishing up this chair in a few weeks and we have more fun details to highlight! This is goi g to be one gorgeous chair!

Photos from Cobani Bleu's post 05/09/2023

I always love a good before and after! This chair has gone home now but what a transformation. We lost the nailhead trim and changed the arms just a bit. But the fabric is the star of the show. A beautiful blush chenille in a very large repeat. The size of the repeat presented a few head scratching moments but in the end I think it turned out beautifully! And more importantly, my client is thrilled with it! And that’s what really matters!

04/09/2023

Have you heard? My upholstery buddies and I are doing a new challenge (remember our lampshade challenge?). This one is going to be epic, a French Mattress Cushion. Tune in all next week as we share each of our cushions! Then be sure to attend the zoom call on Friday to hear the good, the bad and the ugly! AND There will be a give away! Yippee!
I’m really excited about this challenge! Hope to see you next week!

As a follow up to yesterday’s post, here’s the dog bed Jill made. FiBi has been relaxing on it since mom got home!
Swipe to see the ottoman that Jill upholstered on Thursday! It looks so good!
PS I built the ottoman frame to Jill’s custom dimensions. If you want a really awesome beginner upholstery project but don’t have the right piece, I can make it happen for you!

02/09/2023

Y’all my student Jill wanted to learn how to make cushions but she didn’t have a project that needed a cushion! So what’s a dog lover to do but make an extra dog bed cover! She did a fantastic job! And yes she has a big dog!
Lucky dog!💙

Working on something a little different this afternoon!

07/07/2023

Ok this chair has A LOT of nailheads on it! This is probably plateful #3 and I still have more to go! I’m getting there!

Photos from Cobani Bleu's post 06/07/2023

This chair is up next! We’re changing the arms up a bit. Nothing too crazy, just losing the nailheads. But then I need to figure out how to finish the arms? I’m not feeling double welt! What would you do? Give me some ideas!

Hey Friends!
This is a great opportunity to learn all about leather! Rhonda is a great teacher and Workroom Tech is a fantastic learning center.
Is it time you add leather to your upholstery business?

2-spots just opened for my leather workshop July 26-28. This is going to be a fabulous workshop. You can see all the details on my website. I’m happy to answer any questions you might have. Who wants to add leather to your upholstery skill! 🙋‍♀️

Happy National Sewing Machine Day!
I have 4 sewing machines. My sister and roomie has two. I also have 2 sergers! Do they count?
How many sewing machines do you have?

Photos from Cobani Bleu's post 18/05/2023

Today was a hard learning curve for my two incredibly talented students! What looks so simple when done, just looks easy. Trust me that is not always the reality! The sewn in arms proved challenging, but Jason and Elisa persisted when they probably wanted to tell me to hit the road and the final results were oh so good! Stay the course. Upholstery is a skilled profession which means you build skill thru practice. I’m so proud of Jason and Elisa! And they should be proud of their work! Good job!💙

16/05/2023

There was a whole lot of learning going on today! Jason and Elisa got there decking done and got a great start on their arms. Both arms have sewn in front panels. I’d rate these medium in difficulty. But I want them to get a good range of learning experiences to take with them on their upholstery journey.
I’m so impressed by the eagerness to learn.

How Can Cobani Bleu Help You

Did you ever just want to jump ship so badly and do your own thing? Well that is what I did in 2014! I jumped off the corporate bandwagon to start a creative business called Cobani Bleu.

What is Cobani Bleu? Well Cobani is a word I made up years ago that uses the letters from my furkids names. Not having any kids of my own, they are my family and so this word has come to mean family to me. Bleu is a nod to my love of the color blue and for all things French! Ooh la la!

The phrase ‘sit soft’ is something my mom used to say. When there would be a big gathering of family and friends lingering around the table at the end of the meal, and those dining room chairs were beginning to get a bit uncomfortable, she would say, “Let’s go sit soft!” Meaning let’s move to the comfy chairs in the living room and continue our visit.

As a creative person that upholsters, paints and builds furniture and other decorative pieces for the home, I really want create pieces that will ‘sit soft’. They should add to your home story by making a comfortable and loved space for your family and friends.
