Ready to get lost in the woods in 2024, hbu?

23/12/2023

A wintry illustration in honor of the fact that snow really does have a lot of purple in it when you look at it just so. Hope the Holidays are good to you. 🧡

Was it the first day of holiday decorating for you today? Lights are up all over our neighborhood.

We had a really enjoyable of rest(ish).

Maybe you’d like to pet his belly and maybe he’d bite you and maybe you’d still think it was worth it. 🧡

I haven’t been able to draw the last few days so I squeezed in a few minutes before the day started for this little dude.

I like him, might draw some more cats. ☺️

If you celebrate, are you team color or team white when it comes to Christmas lights? Or just team somebody else deal with it? 🎄

Brb, I’m taking off the rest of the weekend and heading in here. And there’s no way I’m going without a dog.✨

When I was a kid I loved a book about a girl who’s family moved to an old property with a substantial overgrown stone or brick wall. When the girl went through the door in the wall she was transported back in time and met another little girl who lived on the property 100 years or so prior. The two of them then had all kinds of adventures.

Any time I mention this book people suggest it is A Wrinkle in Time (it isn’t) and I’d love to figure out the title. Does it sound familiar to you?

I always think the day the clocks change an hour back is the saddest day of the year. It’s like we all have to settle in for a forced long winter (such drama, I know) - I think I’m self medicating with kidlit illustration so I hope you’ll indulge me for a bit.

So many people out walking their dogs tonight at 5pm in the dark. Sigh. What time is it dark for you? Do you struggle with it?

Good morning, friends. 🧡🍂

I know Instagram and Mariah Carey are telling us it’s time for Christmas and if that’s what brings you joy I’m all for it, but over here in this little corner I’m still hanging on to the beautiful autumn we’re having. 🍁🐶

Happy Howloween, friends! 🖤🎃

30/10/2023

This fall has been absolutely beautiful so far. Hope you’ve been able to enjoy the colors where you are too. 🧡🍁

Sometimes all a girl really needs is her dog. 🧡🍁🐶

Have a great weekend, friends. 🧡

Who has a great Halloween costume idea? And who thinks dog costumes are cuter than people costumes? ☺️🎃

If you’re super friendly, enjoy an active lifestyle, love people, wear a perpetual smile, and believe the floofier the better, you might just be a Samoyed!

Sammies are kind of like the kid in school who’d offer you something from their lunchbox, and not be upset if you chose the M&Ms.

They’re all round friendly, cute, and love their families - a Samoyed outside alone is a sad Samoyed.

Cheers to the Sammie! Letter S in our alphabet.

R is for Redbone!

The Redbone Coonhound is an all-American breed developed from Bloodhounds and Foxhounds in the 1800s south. Developed in Georgia but named after the Tennessee breeder Peter Redbone.

The Redbone is an amiable, relaxed and friendly fellow at home but is relentless on the trail, so let’s keep him out of the woods unless we’re hiking because we love our forest friends too!

Redbones originally had a black saddle and a fair amount of white on them, but now are known for their full, deep red coat, long ears, and soft brown eyes. Fun fact - these guys are one of the only hounds who have webbed feet!

If you’re looking for a calm, friendly, family safe dog who might be a great running partner look no further 🧡

I feel like the letter Q is the start of the tail end of the alphabet where all the exotic, fancy letters hang out but maybe that’s just me.

We’re starting this fancy section with the Queensland Heeler, also known as a Red or Blue Heeler, and in the US, as the Australian Cattle Dog.

The ACD was developed in Australia to work cattle, he’s smart, extremely hard working, focused, and loves his family.

These smart fellas like a job! Without one they’ll quickly become bored and find other ways to release their energy. If you’re not working livestock with your ACD you will definitely want to consider getting them involved in a dog sport.

These compact, study dogs were developed from the wild dog of Australia, the Dingo, with a dash of Kelpie, and some mixed heritage from dogs imported from the UK to Australia.

There’s a lot of information available about the lineage and development of the breed beginning with one family, the Halls, and moving on to Wooleston Kennels spanning the late 1700s and early 1800s.

Tough, loving, smart, sturdy, and energetic, Q is for Queensland Heeler!

I know, it’s not even October yet but this year I’m kind of feeling Fall, which is super unusual for me. How ‘bout you?

Maybe it’s all the reels. 🧡🎃

In 1824 the first Pyrenean mountain dogs were imported to the US from France but it wouldn’t be until the 1930s that serious effort was put into developing the breed in the US.

These gentle giants are very affectionate with family and are excellent livestock guardians. They are independent thinkers and vigilant watchdogs. Extremely intelligent, but also really bored by dog sports and obedience, these big guys will show you how ho-him they think your requests are with really slow and lumbering responses. Don’t be fooled though - if they perceive a threat to you or their animal friends they’ll spring into action.

Often known as the Patou in France, the Great Pyrenees is a beloved breed in the US. P is for Pyrenees!

O is for Otterhound! Did you know the Otterhound is one of the most vulnerable breeds in the world today? There are fewer than 800 Otterhounds worldwide with the highest numbers in the US and UK.

The Otterhound had been around a long time but never in high numbers. It’s one of the foundation breeds for the Airedale Terrier.

When they walk, they don’t lift their feet high off the ground and may even shuffle.

Boisterous, scent driven, friendly, and even tempered, the Otterhound really deserves more love and interest. A-roooooo!!

Have a great day, friends. 🧡

The Neapolitan Mastiff is here to represent the letter N!

These big lumbering giants are said to be lazy and loyal in equal parts. They come from Italy and have always been used as guard and protection dogs, so as a result are very attached to their family but can be wary of strangers and other animals.

They take their job seriously! These big dudes can weigh up to 150lbs. Their beautiful heads are covered in folds and pendulous skin and they might just be a tad drooly 💦

So far I’ve drawn every dog for this alphabet with a closed mouth but for the Neapolitan it just didn’t feel right. 😜

Agree or disagree?

For me there’s freedom in knowing “done” is better than perfect, freedom in realizing social media will still live another day even if I’m unable to feed it.

There’s freedom in bad hair days and pizza for dinner, and in being the weird girl because I love our dog like he’s my kid.

There’s freedom in standing up for yourself even when it’s messy.

Who decides what’s perfect, anyway?!

M is for Maltese! These merry little dogs are the perfect little lapdogs. They’re energetic, engaged, and bold for their size.

Does anybody remember the hotel heiress Leona Helmsley? She left $2 million to her Maltese in her will. The pup lived out her life in luxury in Florida.

Their coats are silky and much more similar to human hair than to a typical “furry” dog coat.

Really cute little dogs!

Summer is here and we’re not mad about it! Any other summer lovers here? ⛱️☀️🩴

If you were a giant, pleasant, fluffy floof of a dog with a long history and who almost went extinct (twice!) you might be a Leonberger!

The Leonberger was developed in Germany, and although there is some dispute about their origination, we do know they were developed from the Landseer, St.Bernard, Mastiff, and Pyrenean Mountain Dog.

The Leonberger almost went extinct after WWI (4 dogs remaining) and WWII (8 dogs remaining) so the fact that the breed was revitalized is pretty amazing.

Leonbergers are friendly, calm, and surprisingly agile for their size. They’re also on of the few breeds where males and females look decidedly masculine or feminine and are easily distinguishable. Males can reach around 150lbs and females 115 or so.

The Leonberger! A fantastic choice for L don’t you think?! 🐶🧡

Dreaming of a little get- away. 🕶️☀️

Photos from Fable and Sage, Inc.'s post 14/06/2023

One of my favorite things about summertime is watching Redwood in the yard “daydreaming”.

He loves to lay in a couple specific areas and just watch the sky and listen to the birds.

In other words, he’s perfect. 🧡😜
