A recent feature in Süddeutsche Zeitung (SZ) about Popol Vuh and their "Music for the Soul", entailing some thoughts:

A key is to recognize that there is not one system, one master allegorithm or sound, but a multiplicity of systems, a multiplicity of technology and natures. Not one frequency, but many, in harmony, co-existing (Quantum). Fragmentation and diversity in harmony, as opposed to one rigid construction. At the planetary level it allows co-existence between humans and machines, and between cultures.

Revisiting Popol Vuh’s iconic soundtrack for Werner Herzog’s 1982
“Fitzcarraldo” film – the soundtrack spans 15 tracks and mingles prog sounds with classical elements but is mostly comprised of
opera music. The soundtrack leverages a sentimental, dark but also melancholic atmosphere which gives the listener goosebumps.

Werner Herzog earned a lot of critique for his 1976 film “Heart of Glass” where he famously hypnotized the actors in achieving a so called “cinematic madness”. An excerpt of an article on making “Heart of Glass” exemplifies:

“Herzog has repeatedly asserted that the hypnosis was not about controlling his actors. Before shooting he told Greenberg, “This will be done for reasons of stylization and not for reasons of total manipulation. …this use of hypnosis could give us access to our inner state of mind, starting from a new perspective.” The stylization he hoped to achieve would fit the film’s theme, collective madness.”

In light of Werner Herzog’s longstanding collaboration with Popol Vuh, resulting in more than 10 soundtracks, an article exemplifies:
“they didn’t merely soundtrack Herzog’s movies – as with Bernard Hermann and Hitchcock, they were an integral part of the experience, without which the films would seem unsustainable, even incomplete.”
