Expecting Mothers, here are some tips to make your pregnancy a little easier and to make sure you and your baby stay happy and healthy =]

1) Nutrition - Nutrition is key for both you and your baby. What you eat makes a big difference through your entire pregnancy and while breastfeeding. Good nutrition means a better mood, less heartburn, more energy, and faster recovery. Look for diet suggestions specifically for expecting moms.

2) Comfortable Shoes - Even if you spends most of the day sitting, good shoes are very important. They should be a little bit big when purchased as your feet will very likely swell as time passe. The shoes should have good arch support and soft insoles.

3) Exercise - Even a brisk 2 mile walk will reduce chance of hemorrhage after birth, and it also means that birth will be easier and recovery will be faster. You'd be surprised what you might be able to do while pregnant, so try out different activities like brisk walks, light swimming, yoga, or pilates! Just make sure to avoid contact sports and any sharp pain.

4) Prenatal massage - Find a good massage therapist with expertise on prenatal massage to relieve a lot of tension and pain. By finding time to relax and let go of stress with the help of a masseuse, both you and your baby will benefit.

5) Sleep - Sleep is vital. Your body is working overtime to help your little one develop, which means you are going to need rest to allow your body to do it's work. Listen to your body and sleep when you need to sleep. This will usually mean napping (especially in the first and third trimester) and getting a good amount of sleep at night. Aim for at least 7 and a half hours of sleep a day, but 8 to 10 is optimum when possible.

6) Purposeful Relaxation - Being calm and relaxed is extremely important. Studies have shown that when babies are exposed to high amounts of stress hormones in the womb, it affects their IQ and makes them more prone to depression and irritability. We can't control all situations around us, but what we can do is control our reactions to them by trying to respond to life in a more calm and peaceful way.. for our sake and for the wellbeing of the baby. Setting even 10-15 minutes a day to simply relax, do yoga, or meditate can make a world of difference.

7) Elimination - Many pregnant moms complain about being constipated. The easiest way to avoid constipation is to eat 2 stalks of celery every day. You can spread some peanut butter on them for a great tasty snack. But any vegetables high in fiber will do.

Pregnancy is a very important and magical time for both the mom and the baby. Taking care of yourself is important and your little one will thank you for it.
