During the swinging 1960s and the height of the television show " ", Adam West (Batman) described constant sexual rendezvous had with co-stars and fans, both on and off the set. Burt Ward (Dick Grayson’s Robin) discussed how West introduced his “naive 20 year old” self to “the wildest sexual debauchery that you can imagine”: “We’re talking about wild times in the dressing rooms, on the set, between the shots, in the lunch wagon. And then of course, doing the personal appearances on the weekend, that’s where it really got wild. And I have to be honest with you, we became like sexual vampires.”

A memorable anecdote told by West was when he and Frank Gorshin, who played The Riddler in the series and film, participated in an o**y at a Hollywood party. Shortly after joining in, West and Gorshin were kicked out due to the fact that they stayed in character as Batman and Riddler, respectively. "We walked in and it was an o**y", says West, "So I immediately went into the Batman character, and Frank went into the Riddler character, because we were getting the big giggles...it was so funny to us, what we walked into. And we were kicked out. We were expelled from the o**y." Although these more “adult” real life stories don’t match the family friendly camp that surrounded the franchise, observing out of universe instances such as these showcased (in a very unconventional way) the Batmania happening around the globe and (clearly) behind closed doors in the late 1960s. ✌🏽💙🦇
