Duty Free Canada
Anyone can shop at a duty free as long as they are leaving Canada. There are currently 55 licensed shops, including 33 land border and 22 airport locations.
Canada's duty free shops are unique retailers licensed by the federal government to sell goods free of certain CDN duties and taxes because they are deemed exports. The first land border shop opened in Canada in 1985. Land border shops are locally owned and operated private businesses, whereas many airport shops are owned by large international companies.
