RUNNERS - listen up and swipe to find out why strength/rehab work is so important to support your training 🏃🏻‍♀️

The second slide here which I’ve created with inspiration from a fabulous infographic by the running physio guru, Tom Goom, shows how many times our BODYWEIGHT we generate in terms of forces through different joints, tendons and muscle groups when we run.

Isn’t the human body amazing in terms of what it can take/do if we ask it?!

This can help to explain why we might have injuries/ni**les when we increase running volume, intensity and/or frequency, especially if doing too much too soon.

When we assess you here at Move NTH with any running issues, don’t be surprised to find a big focus and emphasis on strength and gradually increasing loading capacity as your rehab 🙌🏼

So if you have any ni**les or injuries as a result of running, don’t ignore them! Often a tailored rehab plan along with the right advice on offloading and return to loading/running can be the key to injury and pain free running 🔑

⭐️ CLIENT SPOTLIGHT ⭐️
(shared with full consent and permission)

This journey has been a special one to be a part of - Davie came to me towards the end of last year just as Move NTH was starting to take shape in the background. He’d been struggling with hip and knee pain which was having a big impact on his running, and given he had some big goals in mind, this was certainly a problem.

Over 4-5 months, we put some serious graft into rehabbing the issues following a thorough assessment and analysis of his hip and knee function, and this in combination with the support of his coach Sophie at to make changes to training plans where required, Davie more than achieved his goal.

In April, he successfully completed his 50+ mile Ultramarathon pain free with no issues and as you can see, he was quite rightly very proud to do so🏃🏼🥳

As I’m sure Davie would tell you, this process definitely didn’t come without its ups and downs and there were times where symptoms really flared. But he trusted the process, kept putting in the work and what a fantastic example this is of how you can work together towards a goal and what rehab can do 🙌🏼🤩

So, this is a HUGE well done to Davie - his hard work absolutely reaped the rewards 👏🏼

If you have any queries about physio and whether it’s right to help you in your journey to recovery from any injuries or issues, then drop me a message 😊

Teamwork makes the dream work 🤝🏼

Yes I love to chat because getting to know new people is half the fun of the job - but the really fun part is getting to know what’s important to you and knowing how best to help you

In my opinion, if your physio or anyone helping you to look after an injury doesn’t get to know you - they can’t really know to how help in the best way

So if you ever have any doubts about this with who you are working with, including me because we all get it wrong sometimes, then never be afraid to have that conversation or find someone else who you feel can REALLY listen and understand what you need 🙌🏼☺️

We see it time and time again.
We expect quick, overnight changes but the truth is that rehab, injuries, ni**les and the rest are a journey and certainly not a linear or straight forward one at times. And it can be INCREDIBLY frustrating!

But when you hit a ‘set back’ do you throw in the towel? It all comes back to that old analogy of not slashing all your car tyres if one kicks the bucket. Be consistent, have someone working with you who can provide the knowledge and expertise to help you through that sticky period and you will reap the rewards at the other side 🔑🙌🏼

Any questions about how to get started in your rehab journey? Drop me a message and let’s get started ☺️📈

Physio is about so much more than sports injuries - it’s about working with you to achieve your goals and restore function and movement as much as possible, regardless of how the issue has come about 🏃🏼‍♀️

Basically, I get to help you get back to the things you love, which is what I love 🙌🏼✨

And if you’re not sure if physio can help you? Drop me a message - anyone who knows me knows I also love to chat 👀 so I am always happy to have a chatter about whether or not physio could be the right thing for you!

Stay with me on this one…

Hands on treatment whether it be massage, acupuncture etc.. whatever it is, it does have a place - if it didn’t, honestly, I wouldn’t do it ever

But does it ‘fix’ or get to the root cause of the symptoms?
9 times out of 10 the answer is no, and so many other factors need to be addressed.

The language used around these treatments is the main issue - if we could truly manipulate tissues in the body with just our hands or touch, we’d be falling apart 🙅🏻‍♀️

That being said, massage can absolutely be helpful to provide pain relief, relaxation and help ALONGSIDE physio and rehabilitation of your injury to get a great result! It can provide a great window of opportunity to allow you to do all the other super important things which really help to come back stronger when you’ve been injured 💪🏼

The two can work well hand in hand if you are getting the right advice from the right professional - no one other than a qualified physio should be prescribing exercises to you for specific injuries 🤝🏼

02/02/2024

Thanks to another sudden wee influx of you guys looking for help with your ni**les over the last 24 hours, as it currently stands I cannot take on anymore new clients until mid March at the earliest, so until then my books are officially CLOSED 📖

Any existing enquiries from anyone who is waiting for appointment availability will be honoured and I will get back to you this weekend!

If there are cancellations or any changes with this, I’ll post an update on my page to keep you all in the loop.

I cannot believe I am posting this after 3-4 short weeks! Thank you SO much to everyone supporting my wee Physio business - this would not be happening without you all booking in and trusting me to help you with your injuries, so I am very very grateful ☺️🙌🏼

The truth about injury 💭👇🏼

It’s not fully preventable, unfortunately it’s a part of life.
However, injury limitation and training/recovering well are one and the same a lot of the time.
So doing the simple things well can go far in reducing the chances of injuries happening.

A chance to..

✨ Get stronger
✨ Build better foundations
✨Try a different style of training
✨Move in new ways
✨Set new goals
✨ Reframe your mindset

Changing the way we look at injury is a mental battle, especially when we can’t do what we want to. But supporting you through the rehab journey is one of the most rewarding parts of the process - this is why the goal is always to meet you where you’re at and work with you as a completely unique individual with your own personal goals 🤝🏼

A common scenario seen in the world of Physiotherapy is clients stopping any rehab which causes any discomfort - but rehab often isn’t meant to be totally pain free ❌

Why? Because pain more often than not DOES NOT equal ‘damage’.

The key is monitoring how your symptoms respond to the rehab you are carrying out ⏰

Now that doesn’t mean to say that we push into pain or overdo things, but rehab may involve a temporary & tolerable increase in symptoms. The general rule to use, is if symptoms settle to baseline levels within a 24 hour period, you are probably pitching it about right! If they don’t, we likely just need to ease off a little on that exercise/movement next time you do it 💡

So let’s focus on the key being your baseline, not necessarily no pain whatsoever 🔑

Any questions about an injury or ni**le, drop a DM and see if I can help!

07/01/2024

Now taking new client bookings! Please see the info below for how to book etc, and all will be posted on stories and saved to a highlight too 🙌🏼

▫️Appointments available to book by DM or emailing [email protected]

▫️I also work in the NHS full time, so I am limited with how many clients I can take on at one time - this is to ensure I can provide quality rehab to each and every client! This also means I may not be able to respond straight away to enquiries, but I will get back to you as soon as I can

▫️When enquiring, please give a brief description of your injury/issue so I can establish if this is something I can help with or if I need to point you in the direction of another professional

▫️If we are going ahead with booking in, you will be sent an email including a form to complete with all details required - no appointment will be able to go ahead without this

Looking forward to helping you all with your injuries and ni**les and keeping you doing the things you love 🏋🏻‍♀️💪🏼🏃🏼‍♀️
