In the surf on Talbot Island Tuesday, the baitfish pattern I tied up before work that morning had a very short life span, as it was destroyed by this Black Drum caught that afternoon just north of the Fort George Inlet. These Drum have a narley set of teeth !

Invited to chase some Tarpon around with a friend and a guide out of Everglades City this past Tuesday. Had a few shots at some rolling Tarpon early morning, but no luck with them. Guide Capt. Steve Baird put us on a bunch of Snook. Sight fishing for them is a good time.

It took several years of on and off preparation, but after four solid months of practicing 15 different casting tasks, memorizing numerous definitions , and 6 oral presentations with casting demonstrations to match, on the average of four hours per day, I was able to successfully pass my casting instruction certification exam with Fly Fishers International on the first attempt in early March of this year making the 12 hour drive to Lafeyette,LA. I need to thank so many people who helped me get here. First , my wife Joanne for supporting me while I spent close to four hours per day from October 2023 through February 2024 preparing for the exam. On the couch viewing countless hours of videos on my iPad from casting practice sessions, and oral presentations. I had the opportunity to have three mentors/ coaches help me along the way. Craig Buckabee, Dusty Sprague and Jim Schneider, who are all Master Class Instructors. I consider them life long friends who provided me with the skill set I needed to get this done. Also need to thank Gail and Lauren at North Quana Outpost, in Ponte Vedra Beach for allowing me to hold casting clinics at their location to help me prepare for the exam as well.
