THE DAVY CROCKETT CRAZE IN 1950'S.
Paul F. Anderson wrote in 1996 this wonderful book about the Davy Crockett Craze in 1950's. It was a look at the 1950's phenomenon and Davy Crockett collectibles.
The book told the history about the Disney's TV production from the very early start until it aired in December 1954, about the music and ballad of Davy Crockett, and the Crockett mania and craze that swept the Nation during 1955, 1956, 1957.
Productions of Davy Crockett collectibles were started during the craze, and they were books, toys, games, food, furniture, clothing, and much more.
DAVID CROCKETT PORTRAIT ON JOE SWANN'S NEW BOOK "THE EARLY LIFE AND TIMES OF DAVID CROCKETT IN EAST TENNESSEE.
The original portrait of David Crockett, which is printed on the cover of Joe Swann's new book " The Early Life and Times of David Crockett in East Tennessee" is made in 1831.
It was New York painter James Hamilton Shegogue (1806-1872), who in 1831 painted this watercolor drawing on paper, while David Crockett sat for him.
Shegogue's portrait of David Crockett was passed on to the artist's grandson, Paul Hamilton Shegogue. He sold the painting in 1903 to David Crockett's great grandson, John W. Crockett (grandson by the way of John Wesley Crockett and Robert Hamilton Crockett). The portrait was again passed on to David Crockett's great-great granddaughter Mrs. A Sidney Holderness, and finally to great-great-great grandson, Algernon Sidney Holderness.
On December 21, 1984, the portrait was presented as a gift to the National Portrait Gallery, Smithsonian, Washington D.C.

We certainly appreciate Congressman David Kustoff coming to Davy Crockett Days. With all that has gone on in Washington and around the world this week, it would have been easy for him to cancel but he didn’t. He came, graciously greeted his constituents and walked through the parade before heading to his office to work. Thanks to him and his staff for making the effort.
