Last Saturday Whangaroa Village Inc held their AGM. This was attended by 13 locals with 10 apologies . the following people were elected on the committee..
CHAIRPERSON: Steve Castle
SECRETARY: Jan Murray
TREASURER: Allan Murray
COMMITTEE MEMBERS: Elton Sturnfels, Ellen Kuiper, Murray Shaw, Jeanette Wilkins, Viv Castle.
Moved Jeanette Wilkins. Seconded Steve Castle.

Although Ann Court was unable to attend our AGM she does attend most of our committee meetings and has been very helpful with our communications with the council. The committee expressed our thanks for her continued efforts on our behalf.

We were pleased that the waterfront by the fishing club, where the rocks had fallen away creating a very dangerous area, has finally been fixed after several submissions to the council from our Committee.

The following were some of the items discussed..
BOARDWALK FROM KENT BAY TO LEWER STREET
We have been informed by council that this would have to be built with 80% of it over the water. Initial Costing was $2.2 Million. The council does not want to proceed at this stage. WIP. Committee not to give up on this. This is a safety issue and it is dangerous for pedestrians to walk along this piece of road from Lewer road to the exisitng pathway. Made even more dangerous as the speed limit here is 100k.
SPEED TABLES THROUGH THE VILLAGE CENTRE
Speed limits from the Wainui Rd turnoff and through the village have been discussed with council for several years.
HISTORIC ROCK WALLS FALLING AWAY
This is the area along the waterfront before the Clansman Wharf. This is ballast from ships about 150 years ago and needs urgent
repair.
ROADSIDE MAINTAINENCE AND DRAIN CLEARING
Still not satisfactory progress on this. The community needs to persist with R.F.S’s (On Line Request for Service
through FNDC) and include photographs of any dangerous situations or near misses on the road where the
vegetation has grown out over the road causing the traffic to go over the median strip.
RUBBISH RECYCLING AREA
Has been improved slightly by the addition of a fence and more efficient refuse bins. Suggested a CCTV sign be put
in the recycling Area to deter the illegal dumping of rubbish. This is a big problem during the holiday season.
TEMPORARY CARP PARK
Still in need of a new surface. Original consensus was to use Gobi Blocks. Ann Court has suggested that it be sealed
but we are reluctant to do this as the “Green Areas” in the Village are few.
Jeanette Wilkins Moved that we approach the Council again requesting drainage and Gobi Blocks be placed on
“boggy areas” around the edge of the car park. Seconded by Chris Beech.
SECURITY CAMERA UPDATE
12 cameras were originally installed by WVI and 4 by WSFC. 2 cameras removed from the Marlin. Steve to contact
the owner to get permission to re install these.
WATER QUALITY OF HARBOUR
All members of the community are encouraged to notify the authorities if they discover anyone breaking the law and
causing pollution of the Harbour.
“NO PARKING” SIGN UNDER PROTECTED POHUTUKAWA TREE
Many high vehicles (including ones towing boats, cannot drive under the tree which hangs over the road and have to move onto the wrong side of the road to get through. Unfortunately some people have taken to parking in this area. It needs to be kept free.
To ask Cr Ann Court for any progress on this.
WHANGAROA VILLAGE COMMUNITY CLEAN UP DAY
Jan to send out information on this to the Community Data Base. Date set for Saturday 11 th November, 8am to 10am.
Then morning tea at the outside area of the Fishing club. To contact Ann Court re rubbish collection bags from
council. Steve to contact Bruce Mills re providing mulch.
Areas to be tidied up: From Ratcliffe Bay to Kent Bay – gardens around the public toilets; gardens by the dinghy rack
areas; foreshore along bays
HELIPAD IN WHANGAROA
Allan suggested we follow this up. It was agreed it was a good idea to have one in Whangaroa, for safety reasons.
Steve to make enquiries.
RUBBISH ON CLANSMAN WHARF
Left behind by fishermen. Rubbish bins not being used. Ellen suggested a sign be erected. Regional Council needs to
be contacted.
RUBBISH BIN BY BOYD GALLERY
May be more use if moved to near the picnic tables in the Village Green. Council to be approached.
BOYD GALLERY
Concerns over no maintenance being done. If this is a Heritage property it needs to be maintained by law. Historic
Places Trust for information, or Cr Ann Court FNDC.
NEW KAEO BRIDGE TRAFFIC LIGHTS
Concerns expressed over cars running red lights. Two lanes supposed to be in use by Christmas this year.
BRIDGE 121 ON WHANGAROA ROAD NEEDS REPAIRING
Murray Shaw to send RFS to council.
