Hey Crew
One of the back stories on how this old VE Wayfarer ute ended up stashed in the shed
Enjoy
It was a stinking hot Sunday arvo in 1994, and young farmhands, Bazza and Gazza, decided to knock off early and take their trusty 1968 VE Valiant, Wayfarer ute to the pub in Beverley for a few quiet ones. Or so they thought.
After a solid session of tinnies and tall tales, the lads stumbled out of the pub, arms around each other's shoulders, singing "Up there Cazaly" at the top of their lungs. They somehow managed to fire up the ute and hit the dusty road home.
Now, it's worth mentioning that the beer goggles were firmly in place, and their navigation skills were a bit... sketchy. As they approached the farm, they took a wrong turn (or three) and ended up driving the ute backwards into the chook pen.
Cluckin' chaos ensued! Feathers flew, chickens squawked, and the ute's rear bumper got a bit of a tweak. But, miraculously, the lads emerged from the wreckage, a bit battered, but still standin'!
Next mornin', the farm boss, Old Mate Dave, stormed into their quarters, shoutin', "Get up, you galahs! You've got work to do!" Bazza and Gazza slowly sat up, holdin' their heads, and gazin' at each other with a mix of confusion and terror.
As they stumbled out to face the music, they saw the ute, with a few scratches and a wonky bumper, but still in one piece. Old Mate Dave just shook his head and said, "You blokes are lucky I need you to fix the fences today. Now, get to work and don't make me have to come over there and give you a kick in the pants!"
And so, the lads trudged off to work, with pounding heads and a newfound respect for the ute's reverse gear.

The Valiant's Valiant Victory
(With a hint of artistic license๐)
The Albany Classic, a grueling endurance race through the rough streets of Albany in Southwest WA was the ultimate proving ground.
The big guns were out in force: the race built XW Falcon, a predator on the straight, and the muscular HK Monaro, a king of the corners. But lurking in the shadows was a dark horse - the unassuming VE Valiant.
Owned by a grizzled old mechanic, the Valiant was more of a family car than a race car. It had seen better days, its red paint job ripped out in the back garage, but under the hood, there was a secret weapon. Years of tinkering had transformed the docile slant six-cylinder into a snarling beast.
The race started with a bang. The Falcons, Monaros and other cars shot off the line like bullets, leaving the Valiant in their dust. But the driver was in no hurry. He knew the race was a marathon, not a sprint. As the kilometers ticked by, the high-performance machines began to show their weaknesses. The Monaros, despite their handling, were guzzling fuel like there was no tomorrow. The Falcons, while blisteringly fast, were overheating.
Meanwhile, the Valiant was chugging along, its engine purring like a contented cat. It was slower on the straights, but it made up for it in the corners. The old mechanic with the reflexes of a much younger man, danced the Valiant through the bends, the car obeying his every command.
As the sun began its descent, the race was a three-way battle. The Falcon was struggling, but still had a burst of speed left. The Monaro was conserving fuel but was starting to lose ground. And the Valiant? It was still going strong, its headlights cutting through the gathering dusk like twin eyes of a predator.
The final lap was a heart-stopping affair. The three cars were neck and neck, the crowd roaring like a thunderclap. As they hurtled towards the finish line, the Falconโs engine blew, a plume of smoke marking its demise. The Monaro, desperate for the win, pushed too hard and spun out, leaving the track clear for the Valiant.
With a roar that seemed to echo through the ages, the underdog crossed the finish line. The crowd erupted in disbelief. A Valiant, a humble family car, had beaten the mighty Falcon and Monaro. As the old mechanic climbed out of the car, his face a mask of grit and triumph, he was greeted by a hero's welcome.
The legend of the Valiant was born that day, a testament to the power of human ingenuity and the enduring spirit of the underdog.

The 1968 Chrysler VE Valiant holds a special place in Australian automotive history.
Introduced in October 1967, it marked a significant departure from its predecessor, the VC Valiant, boasting a completely new design and a wider range of engine options.
VE Valiant was Chrysler Australia's first foray into offering a V8 engine across the entire lineup, alongside the familiar slant six option.
This, coupled with its modern and stylish design, earned the VE Valiant the prestigious "Wheels Car of the Year" award in 1968 โ a first for Chrysler Australia.
Owning a piece of automotive history like the VE Valiant is a dream for many car enthusiasts.
Restoring a classic car can be a challenging but incredibly rewarding experience. It's a journey that takes you back in time, as you meticulously bring a car back to its former glory.
The process of restoration can be as diverse as the cars themselves. Some enthusiasts may choose a complete frame-off restoration, where every nut and bolt is disassembled, replaced, or refinished.
Others might opt for a more conservative approach, focusing on preserving the car's originality while making necessary repairs and upgrades.
Regardless of the restoration approach, there's a certain satisfaction that comes from seeing a classic car brought back to life.
It's a testament to the enduring appeal of these vehicles and the passion of the people who keep them on the road.
The 1969 VF Valiant Hardtop:
A Cruising Legend Down Under
In 1969, amidst the backdrop of a burgeoning v8 car scene, Chrysler Australia unveiled a vehicle destined to become a local legend: the 1969 VF Valiant Hardtop.
This sleek and powerful coupe injected a dose of American muscle car flair into the Australian market, capturing the hearts of driving enthusiasts for generations to come.
The VF Valiant Hardtop was a significant departure from its sedan counterpart. Its extended bonnet and flowing hardtop roofline gave it a distinctly sporty profile. The absence of a B-pillar further accentuated the car's elongated look.
But the VF Valiant Hardtop wasn't just about aesthetics. Under the hood, it could be equipped with the legendary 318ci V8 engine, a powerhouse that delivered exhilarating performance.
This, coupled with the optional three-speed automatic transmission, transformed the Hardtop into a formidable cruising machine, ideal for carving up highways and leaving other cars in its dust.
The interior of the VF Valiant Hardtop was a driver-centric haven. The bucket seats, upholstered in plush vinyl, provided excellent comfort and support during spirited drives.
The inclusion of a center console with a floor-mounted gearshift further emphasized the car's sporty character.
While the VF Valiant Hardtop wasn't without its competitors, it carved out a unique space in the Australian car scene. It offered a compelling blend of style, performance, and practicality, making it a desirable choice for young families and driving enthusiasts alike.
Today, the 1969 VF Valiant Hardtop is a sought-after classic, cherished by car collectors and enthusiasts for its historical significance and timeless design.
Owning one is more than just having a car; it's a connection to a period in Australian automotive history marked by innovation and a love for driving.
The sight of a restored VF Valiant Hardtop cruising down the road is a guaranteed head-turner, a rolling reminder of a bygone era that continues to capture the imagination of car lovers today.
