๐๐ฌ๐จ๐ฆ๐๐ญ๐ซ๐ข๐ ๐๐ข๐-๐๐ก๐ข๐ ๐ก ๐๐ฎ๐ฅ๐ฅ (๐๐๐๐) โช๏ธThe IMTP is a way to test maximal strength in athletes and is correlated with performance in other metrics such as vertical jump and sprint speed โซ๏ธThese can be done using a crane scale (as shown in the video) or with force plates โช๏ธEssentially, all you do is pull as hard as you can on the bar producing as much force as possible, and it is recommended to use a 145ยฐ hip angle to try to keep the movement as standardized as you can โซ๏ธThe IMTP can be coupled with force produced during a counter movement jump to determine the difference between their maximal strength and explosive strength capacity; this can give guidance on whether the athlete needs ballistic training, maximal strength work or concurrent training โช๏ธThe IMTP can also be normalized relative to bodyweight to help compare athletes of different sizes/weights

๐ ๐๐๐๐๐ญ๐ข๐ฏ๐ ๐๐จ๐ ๐จ ๐๐จ๐ฉ๐ฌ๐ Adding a reactive component to simple drills and warm-ups helps to get more out of them Pogo Hops are a good drill to to build stiffness and endurance throughout the calf/ankle complex but they can be a boring drill, just hopping up and down in place By incorporating reaction to stimuli, we integrate cognitive processing, reaction time and increased focus in addition to the physical qualities we are training With this drill, we are performing continuous pogo hops and reacting to the arrows by hopping in the direction they are pointing while restraining our movement to the colors and numbers

Currently he is an assistant coach for the Phoenix Suns for the 2021-2022 season

๐ ๐๐จ๐ฎ ๐๐ข๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ข๐๐ฆ๐ฌ ๐๐๐ ๐๐ง๐ฃ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ฒ ๐ ๐During the 2nd quarter vs the Nets, on 1/18/2013 Lou Williams tore his ACL when driving to the hoop in transition and planting on his right leg ๐He returned to his first game on 11/5/2013, 9 months and 4 weeks after the original ACL tear โน๐ฝโโ๏ธLou Williams continues to have a very successful career post-ACL surgery still playing in the NBA, back with the Hawks. Since his ACL injury he has won NBA sixth man of the year award 3x in 2015, 2018 and 2019.
๐ ๐๐ซ๐๐ง๐๐จ๐ง ๐๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ก ๐๐๐ ๐๐ง๐ฃ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ฒ ๐ ๐During the 1st quarter vs the Grizzlies, on 11/2/12, Brandon Rush tore his ACL when landing after going up for a dunk and being bumped; as he lands his knee rapidly torques into valgus ๐He returned to his first game on 11/5/2013, 1 year and 3 days after the original ACL tear. He only played 2 games in November before fully coming back to consistent play in the month of December that season โน๐ฝโโ๏ธRush continued to play in the NBA until the 2016-2017 season and currently plays for Larisa Basketball Club out of the Greek Basket League since Nov 2019. While he wasnโt a superstar caliber player, he was still able to continue to have a solid professional career following his ACL surgery
๐ ๐๐๐ซ๐ซ๐ข๐๐ค ๐๐จ๐ฌ๐ ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐ซ ๐ ๐During the 4th quarter of game 1 of the first round of the playoffs vs the Sixers, on 4/27/12, D Rose tore his ACL when jump stopping/decelerating while driving to the hoop; as he lands you can see his L knee collapse inwards ๐He missed the whole 2012-2013 season and returned to play in a game on 10/29/2013 18 months after the initial ACL injury. He only played 10 games that year before tearing his meniscus in his other knee. Despite his longstanding history of injuries, he continues to play in the nba ๐บD Roseโs ACL tear is one of the more devastating ACL injuries that really changed the trajectory of a promising superstar career โน๐ฝโโ๏ธDespite the setbacks and subsequent injuries, D Rose was able to adapt his style of play to remain a solid nba player throughout his career, instead of letting his ACL injury end his career
๐ ๐๐ฆ๐๐ง ๐๐ก๐ฎ๐ฆ๐ฉ๐๐ซ๐ญ ๐๐๐ & ๐๐๐ญ๐๐ซ๐๐ฅ ๐๐๐ง๐ข๐ฌ๐๐ฎ๐ฌ ๐๐๐๐ซ ๐ ๐During the 3rd quarter of game 1 of the first round of the playoffs vs the Heat, on 4/28/12, Shump tore his ACL and lateral meniscus when he planted on his left leg after dribbling in transition to cut and go around the back to try and get by the defender ๐He returned to play in a game on 1/13/13, just under 9 months after the initial ACL injury. He was able to return and play through the 2020-21 season and did not suffer a reinjury of his ACL ๐บIt is difficult to completely say why he had the ACL tear in this specific moment. The fairly straight knee with a quick deceleration/change of direction torques the ACL and is a common mechanism but he has also probably done this move a million times before; the reason is multifaceted including the biomechanics, acute in-game fatigue, chronic loading in the season, how did he sleep the night before etc (the list goes on and on) โน๐ฝโโ๏ธACL tears require intensive and long term rehab post-operatively to return to cutting sports like basketball but it doesnโt have to be a career ending injury either
๐Internal and External Cueing โช๏ธInternal Focus/Cue: full attention on the joint or muscle โซ๏ธExample: โJump and land without your knees going inwards โช๏ธExternal Focus/Cue: Shifts attention towards the environment, relying more on automatic motor control โซ๏ธExample: โJump and land while reaching for the conesโ ๐บAnecdotally, I find athletes (and myself) thinking about what theyโre doing with their body when using internal cueing versus just thinking of the task/output when using external cueing which is more in-line with how sports are played ๐บInternal focus may be necessary, esp early on with improving muscle control/contraction or re-learning gait patterning ๐บInternal cueing seems to facilitate more reliance on our visual system while external cueing seems to facilitate more automatic processes and โreplicatesโ sport better from a neurological standpoint, as during sport, athletes perform an action focusing on their environment, strategy, and opponents/teammates while automatically getting in varying joint positions etc
