Such an amazing time at Sundance!!

03/02/2024

I returned home from Sundance a couple of weeks ago – still thinking about what an amazing experience it was – everyone just in it together and focused on their art. You could feel the creative energy everywhere, and I came home energized and excited about my own work. Love this quote that hey showed before every movie🩷

Yes, I will be serving Jello shots at my Book Launch Party!!

(Along with other refreshments related to the book.)

The Jello shots go with a scene where Cora is at a new wave dance club in 1988. She’s taken psychedelics and is discussing Heideggerian philosophy with her friends, dancing until all hours, and taking Jello shots. So, a typical night in the '80’s!

I hope you can join me – next Thursday evening, Nov. 16th from 5-7 at the Rancho Santa Fe Library! (The event is open to everyone but rsvp’s will help me plan – please pm me if you can make it!)

REVIEW
Thanks to Netgalley and the Publisher for this ARC. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Wow! What a wonderful, fast paced, can't stop turning the pages book. I loved itπŸ₯ΉπŸ₯Ή. I loved every single thing about this book, the storyline, the characters, and the engaging writing. I read it all in a day, that's how wonderful it was! In addition, this us the author's debut
πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§
My favorite character is Jean, at first I didn't know how her story would affect the storyline, but it all made sense at the end. She was the victim of gaslighting and emotional abuse for 15 years at the hands of her husband. It was refreshing to see her awareness about the condition, her growth, and healing. I almost cried while reading her part. Emotional abuse is just as traumatic as physical abuse(if not more)
πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§
Coralee, the philosopher and a single mother, and Lenora, her 12 year old daughter. I loved reading their POVs, especially Len's. There's a little element of magical realism here, too. My heart went out to Cora because of her failed relationship with Len's father. I still admired her stegthen and the home she built for len
πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§
Nevertheless, I'm happy it ended with a HEA with everyone getting their due comeuppance .

Abilene - Manhattan Book Review 11/09/2023

It can be a bit nerve wracking waiting for early reviews to come in -- I am very grateful for this one from Manhattan Book Review:

"Both devastatingly melancholy and surprisingly uplifting, Abilene offers an emotionally charged exploration of the meaning of family, the role of identity, and the difficulty of finding a place in the world....."

Abilene - Manhattan Book Review A family saga with a whole lot of heart, Dare DeLano’s Abilene is an homage to hardscrabble life in rural Texas and all those who call it home. It’s a poignant and atmospheric story centered on a group of strong female characters and with a couple of intriguing mysteries at its heart, and its my...
