We’re taking a look back at our Highlights!

The future of any industry lies with youth stepping in to learn and carry on decades of knowledge from the people that came before them (with their own twist of course).

Departments across Pieridae take part in our summer student program, inviting students in to learn and take another step towards their future. With a few returning students in 2023, and welcoming some on as full-time after their four months, our summer student program is one of our favourite highlights every year!

Keep an eye out on our socials and our website as we start posting student positions for 2024.

We’re taking a look back at our Highlights

Over the year we like to shine the spotlight on our employees - they keep this ship running efficently and safely 24/7, seven days a week!

Our 2023 Communications Summer Student introduced you all to our Lab Coordinator at the Caroline Complex - Rocky Martin.

Amidst the symphony of humming instruments, clicking keyboards, and softly flowing liquids, the laboratory comes alive with the sounds of scientific exploration and discovery. There Rocky ensure the integrity of Pieridae’s products. Starting as a Laboratory Technician after graduating in 2006, he gradually rose through the ranks and now plays an important role in managing lab operations at the plant.

"Working in the lab has been a rewarding experience. I'm proud to contribute to the success of the Caroline Gas Plant”

We’re taking a look back at our Highlights

In April, our Director of ESG, Karen Spencer, sat on The Energy Council Capital Assembly panel ‘How to Become a Best Practice Oil and Gas Producer’.

“We discussed reporting best practices, the energy transition, and thinking ‘beyond the E’ - putting a spotlight on the value of social and governance growth. Although tough to put metrics around sometimes, international investors are looking at ESG reporting, actions and a demonstration of living our values.”

Collaboration is key as we look to industry best-practice of the future!

We’re taking a look back at our Highlights

Our people are our biggest asset - our people are our biggest asset - OUR PEOPLE ARE OUR BIGGEST ASSET!

Over the course of the year they keep the plants and wells running, AND support local communities. Their positive attitude and strong work ethic are felt throughout Southern Alberta.

We’re taking a look back at our Highlights

Starting off the year, our team successfully drilled the Company’s first Foothills well in the Brown Creek area! That well was also the first successful deployment of the Baker Hughes rotary steerable (Lucinda) in Canada.

The Western Canadian Foothills are truly an area for innovation!

Choose Safety - Because Safety is a Choice Every Day

18 people at our Caroline Gas Plant were recently trained in working at heights! Protecting yourself against a fall means going home safe at the end of the work day.

Energy Safety Canada's Life Saving Rules say:
✔ I inspect my fall protection equipment before use;
✔ I secure tools and work materials to prevent dropped objects; and
✔ I tie off 100% to approved anchor points while outside a protected area.

It is everyone's responsibility to maintain and foster our safety culture!

Alberta's backyard is a beautiful place to play and explore - and when things take a turn for the worse we are lucky to have volunteer organizations like the Rocky Mountain House Search & Rescue to keep us safe!

Their highly skilled volunteers go on active search & rescue missions AND teach children important outdoor survival skills.

2023 meant a costly bill for the Class D Longline Rescue equipment, this included HEC Harness replacement and Boost Hook Overhaul! Rocky SAR is very grateful to Pieridae Energy, Next to New and The 2022 Search for Bigfoot Charity Poker Rally for their generous support. Working together to 'Bring Them Home'.

Today we join those across Canada in honouring First Nation, Metis and Inuit people who have served in Canadian war and peacekeeping efforts for over 200 years.

Though they served and gave their lives, they were not afforded the same benefits as their non-Indigenous fellows. Many of the 7,000 Indigenous people that fought in the First and Second Word Wars returned to Canada to find they had been stripped of their Indigenous status.

Let us never forget their sacrifice abroad and at home.

Everyone wants to go home safely at the end of the day. Operating in a safe and efficient manner using industry guidelines, like the Process Safety Fundamentals (PSF), is key. The PSFs empower people to raise concerns and ensure the safety of themselves and others around them.

‘We Stop If the Unexpected Occurs’ – while we endeavor to plan for everything there are times when we must face the unexpected. When you notice things are not going as expected, stop. Take the time to understand what has changed and why, you may need to make a chance and update the risk assessment. Ultimately, this fundamental helps us avoid incidents, keep people safe and support good business.

This weekend we gave thanks for responsible, affordable, Canadian natural gas.

As you enjoy the warmth of your home and a Thanksgiving dinner with family and friends, remember the folks behind the scenes that make it all possible.

Thank you to the over 200 people at our plants and field sites for keeping the gas flowing today, and the other 364 days of the year!

Did you know 62 per cent of Canadian natural gas is produced in Alberta?

With the largest natural gas infrastructure in North America, our province is relied upon to make Sparks Fly and help you say Shake It Off to winter. Together we’ll be Fearless as we navigate the energy transition, ensuring there’s no Blank Space in the colder seasons.

Supporting the next generation of energy professionals!

We were glad to take part in the Indigenous Job Fair in Lethbridge put on by Community Futures Treaty 7, Piikani Employment Services, Blood Tribe Employment and Skills Training, and the Saamis Employment and Training Association. Our futures live on the shoulders of today’s youth.

“It was excellent to see the youth drumming group and the young dancers as well. To me, it demonstrates the hope and optimism of these Indigenous groups for the future as we work together in economic, culture and community-oriented reconciliation,” said Director of ESG, Karen Spencer who hosted our booth at the fair.

Truth and Reconciliation is 365 days a year – and is especially prevalent during National Truth and Reconciliation Week. Tomorrow, we join others across Canada on National Day of Truth and Reconciliation in commemorating and honouring the children who never returned home, the Survivors and the communities affected by residential schools.

Following resources from the National Truth and Reconciliation Centre this week, our team has continued to learn, understand and explore the history and legacy between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples in Canada.

Pieridae is committed to taking more steps each year in growing our Indigenous Relations efforts to uphold respectful, positive relationships with Indigenous communities, ensuring they have long-term sustainable benefits from our partnerships.

Arts and culture help us connect with our traditions and our roots. The Caroline Cowboy Music & Poetry Gathering was one such event bringing together the finest talents to honour and celebrate Western Heritage with poetry, music and great fellowship. Excess funds from the event wre donated to local charitable and sports groups.

We were glad to sponsor the two-day (nearly sold-out) event, with over 200 attendees including a group from France!

Congratulations to the organizers for such a successful event built on the community spirit of the Old West.

'Learning for a Sustainable Future'!

We had the privilege of participating in the 31st anniversary Neighbours Day Trade Fair and Expo organized by SPOG Sundre Petroleum Operators Group. We were once again delighted to host a booth and connect with the Sundre community.

Surrounded by over fifty booths, the event was a fantastic opportunity to engage in conversations about this year’s theme, shaping a sustainable future.

"SPOG Neighbour Days was very well attended by the community. Events like Neighbours Days are a great opportunity to engage with our stakeholders that live around our facilities and address any questions that may arise or just to have conversations" said Ian Ouderkirk, Caroline Community Liaison Officer.

Thank you to everyone who came out to support Neighbours Day!

A few weeks ago, we had an incredible day as our geologist specialists took a group of enthusiastic Pieridae employees on a hike to explore the geological wonders of our foothills and gain insights into our central Alberta drilling program!

The team ventured out on the ridge walk near Hailstone Butte, where they were immersed in the fascinating world of Cretaceous stratigraphy and fold structures. These geological formations served as visual examples for Pieridae's recent central Alberta drills, giving our team a chance to better understand the terrain where we work.

The hike was both educational and adventurous, as our employees got a chance to witness the majestic beauty of our natural surroundings while learning about the very essence of our operations. It's moments like these that remind us of our commitment to environmental stewardship and responsible resource development.

We are glad to have a team so excited to explore and learn. Together, we're shaping a brighter and sustainable future for energy production in central Alberta!
