angels unaware ceramics (rosie mcknight)
Angels Unaware is my ceramics studio located in the farmland area of Hurtletoot, in rural County Antrim
I am Ceramist, Rosie McKnight and I work from my cosy studio (at the end of a gravel path), helped by my faithful little furry friend Phoebe. Here, I create pieces which capture the essence of my beautiful surroundings, observations and inspirations.
I have loved to make 'things' for as long as I can remember and have constantly been surrounded by creativity, encouraged by my parents who were also both makers of 'things'.
Having studied ceramics both in Belfast and in Cardiff, concentrating mainly on sculptural pieces, I then found myself gradually on a career in youth work, but always maintained a love and passion for making. From little thoughtful gifts to family and friends, demands grew; and Angels Unaware was born!
Angels Unaware offers a range of personalised and thoughtful occasional giftware and sculptural pieces. Working in stoneware and earthenware clays, my forms are heavily influenced by the countryside, coast, and a love of textiles, buttons and fastenings. Pieces are handbiult (textured, decorated and glazed) giving them their own unique story with their own depth and richness of surface.
I delight in the colour and experience of the seasons and their celebrations and reflects this in my products.
At the heart of my work is the creation of treasured heirlooms for my customers to enjoy or purchase as gifts.
The name Angels Unaware speaks of faith and of my experience of life and people - the numerous surprising and inspiring meetings of folks along my journey, and of precious moments of great value often not fully seen at first glance.
