To Whom It May Concern:
I am writing on behalf of the Australian dance organisation Shaun Parker & Company that is based on the
University of Sydney campus in Australia, and by which is supported by the Australia Council for the Arts
and Create NSW.
I am also writing on behalf of our dancers, creative artists, production crew, and managerial team who
have all be involved in collaborative work with BIPOD including performances at the world-class facility
Citerne Beirut.
Shaun Parker & Company was funded by the Council of Australian Arab Relations (CAAR), the Department
of Foreign Affairs & Trade (DFAT through their ACDGP investment) and the Australia Council for the Arts to
visit Beirut as part of a cultural exchange program at Citerne Beirut this year (2019).
The Company’s experience at Citerne Beirut was a remarkable example of true cultural exchange between
Australia and Lebanon, and it is one that we hope to continue into the future. Beirut is so very fortunate to have such vital arts leaders such as Omar Rajeh and Mia Habis and their incredible team and cultural vision that is Citerne Beirut.
As a leading Australian cultural leader, I whole-heartedly support the vision and continuation of Citerne Beirut, the BIPOD – Beirut International Contemporary Dance Festival, and the outstanding work processes of Omar Rajeh and Mia Habis. Such a visionary project places Beirut and Lebanon on the international stage with several cultural and political benefits for both the short-term and the long-term.

Please do not hesitate to contact me for further information or support regarding this matter.

Yours sincerely,

Shaun Parker

Light is not so much something that reveals, as it is itself the revelation.
We eat light, drink it in through our skins. With a little more exposure to light, you feel part of things physically. I like feeling the power of light and space physically because then you can order it materially. Seeing is a very sensuous act-there's a sweet deliciousness to feeling yourself see something.

Study, find all the good teachers and study with them, get involved in acting to act, not to be famous or for the money. Do plays. It's not worth it if you are just in it for the money. You have to love it. Philip Seymour Hoffman

Acting is behaving truthfully under imaginary circumstances. Sanford Meisner

Without this playing with fantasy no creative work has ever yet come to birth. The debt we owe to the play of the imagination is incalculable.
Carl Jung

I regard the theatre as the greatest of all art forms, the most immediate way in which a human being can share with another the sense of what it is to be a human being.
Oscar Wilde

11/01/2018

No great artist ever sees things as they really are. If he did, he would cease to be an artist.
Oscar Wilde

10/01/2018

I love acting. It is so much more real than life.
Oscar Wilde

09/01/2018

You use a glass mirror to see your face; you use works of art to see your soul.
George Bernard Shaw

08/01/2018

To a professional critic (I have been one myself) theatre-going is the curse of Adam. The play is the evil he is paid to endure in the sweat of his brow; and the sooner it is over, the better.
George Bernard Shaw

06/01/2018

Just as the historian can teach no real history until he has cured his readers of the romantic delusion that the greatness of a queen consists in her being a pretty woman and having her head cut off, so the playwright of the first order can do nothing with his audience until he has cured them of looking at the stage through the keyhole, and sniffing round the theatre as prurient people sniff round the divorce court.
George Bernard Shaw

05/01/2018

Unless comedy touches me as well as amuses me, it leaves me with a sense of having wasted my evening. I go to the theatre to be moved to laughter, not to be tickled or bustled into it.
George Bernard Shaw

04/01/2018

People have pointed out evidences of personal feeling in my notices as if they were accusing me of a misdemeanor, not knowing that criticism written without personal feeling is not worth reading. It is the capacity for making good or bad art a personal matter that makes a man a critic.
George Bernard Shaw

03/01/2018

When you want to put something into your part that is not in the play, you must ask the author-or some other author-to lead up to the interpolation for you. Never forget that the effect of a line may depend not on its delivery, but on something said earlier in the play, either by somebody else or by yourself, and that if you change it, it may be necessary to change the whole first act as well.
George Bernard Shaw

02/01/2018

As long as more people will pay admission to a theater to see a naked body than to see a naked brain, the drama will languish.
George Bernard Shaw

31/12/2017

The theatre is a place where one has time for the problems of people to whom one would show the door if they came to one's office for a job.

Tennessee Williams

30/12/2017

The primary function of a theater is not to please itself, or even to please its audience. It is to serve talent.

Robert Brustein

29/12/2017

In the theater, characters have to cut the umbilical cord from the writer and talk in their own voices.

Irwin Shaw

28/12/2017

In theater, the wellspring of the character comes from the doing of it, like a trial by fire, but in front of an audience.

Estelle Parsons

27/12/2017

Theater is a verb before it is a noun, an act before it is a place.

Martha Graham

26/12/2017

You need three things in the theatre -- the play, the actors and the audience, and each must give something.

Kenneth Haigh

25/12/2017

Theater is, of course, a reflection of life. Maybe we have to improve life before we can hope to improve theater.

W. R. Inge

23/12/2017

The theatre, when all is said and done, is not life in miniature, but life enormously magnified, life hideously exaggerated.

H. L. Mencken

22/12/2017

Movies will make you famous; Television will make you rich; But theatre will make you good.

Terrence Mann

21/12/2017

The word theatre comes from the Greeks. It means the seeing place. It is the place people come to see the truth about life and the social situation. The theatre is a spiritual and social X-ray of its time. The theatre was created to tell people the truth about life and the social situation.
