PUB Racing
We race primarily at Waterford Hills Racetrack in Clarkston MI.
PUB Racing is a very successful amateur SCCA race team based in SE Michigan, with two racecars and drivers, many excellent crew and a wide-ranging extended family!
Closing in on the new shape for the engine cover on the Firefly. Add more lightness!! Drag reduction system engaged!
Merritt Scott Collins stretching the legs on the #77 in he last stint of testing today at Waterford Hills. Car ran great after sorting a few minor loose ends, and we’ll be out to race this weekend!
Great start to Sunday’s P2 and Things With Wings race at the SCCA Mid-Ohio Race of Champions this past Sunday. Unfortunately, our race ended just past halfway with a broken driveline, but it’s easy to fix and our pace was coming along well.
Mid-Ohio ROC Things with Wings Sunday Race Start, 2023 First four laps from the Hidari Firefly, starting 8th overall, first in P2. Race was going very well, until we broke the driveline just past halfway. ...
Tough day for Tallulah and the whole PUB Racing crew yesterday at Mid-Ohio. Survived treacherous wet conditions in qualifying - though the car was extremely unhappy - and had a great start third in class and ready to move on the leaders. But after spinning while avoiding another spun car out of the Keyhole first lap, the studs sheared off the drive sprocket and we lost drive, had to coast in and retire the car.
Good news is we were able to affect repairs last night, and believe we should be able to run today. Hardship lap up first, then Q2 mid-morning. Race should be around 2:20.
Fingers crossed the parts hold for another 30 laps!!
It’s almost time to go racing! Test day and first race weekend are just around the corner. Tallulah is almost ready to hit the track…
3D scanning of the Firefly body is complete. Need to mirror the half-scan, then into the CFD wind tunnel and some serious analysis!
If you're cold, they're cold... (there’s a fireplace under there somewhere, too)
How do we celebrate 9/24? Put the #77 on its first H Prod pole, and proceed to win its first race in Prod trim! Congratulations to Merritt Scott Collin’s for getting back in the car in fine fashion!

Amazing weekend at Waterford Hills with Tallulah the P2 Hidari Firefly. New track record by a big margin, lots of excellent and exciting racing. Wonderful way to wrap up a short race season, just the way we want to put the car away. Just looking even better for next season, back on the big circuit.
And like that, the 77 is ready for testing and break-in! Headed up to Waterford Hills on Wednesday...
It was an exhausting weekend with a few setbacks, but we persevered and got the H Prod motor swap done and up and running. Next stop, racetrack and break-in miles!
Assembled, just need final checks and ready for assembly. Install scheduled for this weekend.
Do you wanna build a Prod motor? BIG thanks to D & S Engine Specialists in Clawson for the fine prep and machining work on all these bits. Too bad Chief Mechanic #1 is headed to Germany for two weeks now!
The video you’ve all been waiting for… this past Saturday’s race, starting on pole for P2.

Mid-Ohio 2022 Race of Champions Saturday Things with Wings Race Started on the P2 pole, but with old tires, couldn't hang on to the car with very evil handling. Ended up hitting a curb very hard, collapsing the front susp...
Grounded to the ground. Well, that went much worse than we’d hoped. Broken wheels meant we couldn’t use our primary tires, had to throw the backups on, and they were very much not up to the job. Tried to hang on to it, but the car went from a rocket ship to a hot mess with the old tires, ending in running wide, snagging a curb, and breaking a front rocker arm. Replace or upgrade? Either way, we’re done for the weekend and already home to clean up and recover.
Race day tomorrow!
Tallulah is ready for this weekend’s party…
Short block for the next 924 motor build pulled out of storage and stripped for machining. Time to get things moving!
Next motor build begins! Head stripped and cleaned and ready to go to the machine shop for rework. Now to get rolling on the bottom end.
The calm before the test. Which, other than some tire rub, ultimately went well.
Time for a short shakedown run…
Good day of racecar setup yesterday! Still more odds and sods left, but we’ll on our way to being ready for a little shakedown testing at Waterford in a couple of weeks.
First light off for 2022!
Happy birthday to our team principal, Vaughan!
