This upcoming Harvard Business Publishing webinar on The State of Leadership Development should be very informative especially as you plan for your 2019 business development efforts (which I hope you've started thinking about already!) http://form.harvardbusiness.org/state-of-LD-11-28-18?elqTrackId=BE1DC85F7F88EC38A75CCE00DEE59498&elq=8eb7cabdd71c42829b55fe21bee380ea&elqaid=3237&elqat=1&elqCampaignId=730
The power of follow up! I was reminded of this recently. A few days ago, I reached out to the head of executive coaching at one of my clients to follow up on a coaching proposal I had submitted several months ago. I knew at this point the engagement was probably not mine given the length of time that had passed with no word but nonetheless, I figured it doesn't hurt to send a quick "just want to close the loop" email. And sure enough, within a few hours, I heard back from the client confirming that the executive had selected another coach. AND that she had three new coaching engagements that she wanted to consider me for! I'll take it! Never underestimate the power of follow up. It's what keeps you top of mind with clients. It's what keeps the dialogue going. Make it part of your routine. I love sending follow ups on Fridays (that way they see it over the weekend or on Monday morning) or while on flights (a productive way to spend air time!). Whatever your preference, make follow up a habit and you'll be sure to see the results come forth.
What's your plan for the coming week? I love planning for my week on Sundays. What are the things I can do to move the needle towards my goals? One of the key ways to meet your business development goals is through consistency. You can't be full on the BD efforts one week and do none the next. It doesn't work that way. It's like exercise -- a little every day goes a long way. Decide what the two or three things are that you will do this week to get you closer to your revenue goals. Do you have some emails to send? Do you have a proposal to complete? Are there some contact you need to follow up with? Be concrete on what you'll do. Calendar them in. And do them! Consistent actions lead to results. There's no better day to plan than today!
So, I’ve heard September is the new January! This completely resonates with me! Look, I absolutely love summer. But September always holds a special place in my heart when it comes to growing my practice (and it’s my birthday month but that’s besides the point!). Why such a special month? Well, September is when you need to decide whether to throw in the towel on your goals or whether to buckle down to make the best of the last few months of the year. I choose the latter and I hope you do too. September is when discipline and structure kicks back in. Time to follow up on loose ends. Time to bring closure to all those conversations you’ve been having all year. Or time to start having them if you’ve been procrastinating. And, September is when next year’s planning starts. What are your goals for next year? What do you need to do NOW to set you up for success come January. I love summer. But I do love me some September as well!
I am so excited to launch The Executive Coach's Business Development Masterclass! I've been an executive coach for 15 years and built a thriving practice from scratch. And,t here’s not a week that goes by without an executive coach asking to “pick my brain” about how to increase their revenue. They want to know what do I do differently that leads to such great results. My reaction: "It's not that complicated." Whether a newbie or an established coach, I share with them some of my simple tips and strategies which they can implement right away. They always want to know more! Now, for the first time, I am laying it all out on the table - - the business development system I have used year in and year out to create a thriving practice, and that has allowed me to work with amazing corporate clients across a number of industries. My results are not typical of coaches in my industry, which is exactly why I am choosing to share my system now. Because I believe more executive coaches can do the same. My passion is helping others reach their goals... I've done this for years with executives. And now I want to do the same for my other tribe - - executive coaches.
