So, every once in a while, we have a weekend at the dog shows that makes us say “WOW! Did that really just happen?”! And, this past weekend was one of them. The folks from the Ohio Valley AADRI APBT Club did a fine job of hosting these two conformation shows and adjacent sporting events. We cannot thank them all enough for giving us a venue to display our dogs. They used a very interesting show grounds for this show weekend, one which we will hopefully be able to return to and camp at. It was an equestrian park, complete with cross country eventing course and dressage rings. Beautiful! Word to the wise though, bring a pop up tent if you travel to this destination. There is very little shade. We were blessed most of the time with overcast skies, so it was really very nice. We’d like to thank both of the judges from this past weekend, Mrs. Michelle Klales and the “first timer” Mrs. Suzi Latin. Ya both did an outstanding job of evaluating all of our dogs out there. Suzi found out what it is like to have a thunder and lightning storm come along and interrupt her judging. The show must go on!!!! And it did. Speaking of which, the awards these AADRI clubs are offering these days are just amazing. This weekend’s BIS “booty” consisted of one statue that was hand sculpted and painted to look like “Honeybunch” herself and the other was “Chinaman”…respectively. Very nice indeed. Which leads us into how the dogs of the Forbidden Forest faired this weekend, here we go:
Mr. Stone - a third place ribbon in the first male champion class, and a first place trophy in the second show.
Bubba Kush Capp – a first place ribbon in the first show, and a first place ribbon, a “Best Male” and “BIS” for the second show. Kush won the Chinaman statue.
Mr. Blunt – a first place ribbon and a “Best Male” trophy in the first show, and a second place ribbon in the second show. He was being a “butt” for the second judge. LOL
Indica – (our BIG winner this weekend) a first place ribbon, “Best Female” and “BIS” for the first show. Indica won the Honeybunch statue. This win gave her championship status, so we bumped her into the female champions class for the second show. She won 1st place in the female champions class!
Like I said, we don’t have blessed, awesome weekends like this very often…so we need to be extremely thankful. Another thing that BO and I are thankful for, is each other. We have an awesome relationship with, around and because of these dogs. We both have the same goals and driving, competitive force where our dogs are concerned. If you are reading this and are currently in a relationship with a person who loves these animals as much as you do… thank your lucky stars. Good dog people are hard to come by and sometimes, hard to hang on to. Appreciate what you have! And if you are knee deep into this sport the way we are, and you don’t have that kinda support behind you… if you can, GO FIND IT!
Our next adventure will be in Sept at the ADBA Nationals in Woodstown, NJ. We are taking a break until then. I still have many class/trophy sponsorships available, most of which are 50.00. If you would like to sponsor an award, please DM message me thru FB at Jacqueline Wakefield-Jones and I will hook you up! We can put whatever you’d like (within reason) on the plate and we are using Venmo, CashApp or a good old fashioned check for payment. Get ‘em while they are hot!

FFK decided to head north this past weekend because Bo was invited to judge a show for The Michigan AADRI Show and Pull Club in Belleville, MI. He judged the AM show and the honorable Mr. Terry Kline judged the PM show. All of us wound up staying at the home of Jimmy Whited and his partner in crime Dee. Their house is beautiful, their kennels are immaculate and their hospitality is unmatched. If any of yawl are ever invited to stay with them… take them u on it! The show grounds were organized and registration was humming along thanks to the lovely Suzi Latin and her side kick cousin. As a side note, Suzi did some baking for the show’s raffle and her cookies are truly delish. We also wound up with a jar of “peony” jelly that Suzi made and I haven’t tried it yet but I’ll bet it’s good! The weather was beautiful and not a cloud in the sky, but it was pretty warm when you were standing out in the sun to show dogs. We’d like to thank all the wonderful people who came together to make this show happen… it really did look like yawl knew what you were doing. Special shout out to Master Will Kline for sharing his mad ring stewarding skills with the MI club. I already know he knows what he is doing because I lean on him to help me with the Tri-State shows. Obviously, the DOGS of FFK had a slow morning because they could not be shown under their breeder/owner but, they made up for the wait with a vengeance. Here’s how they did: Seeing as Fat Savage is now retired, we entered him in the “Best Trash Talker” class cause let’s face it, he’s good at it. But guess what? He got beat out by a Bull Terrier, of all things! No love there. Mr. Stone was shown no love in the male champion’s class. It was a big class and completely comprised of red dogs with black masks! Go figure. But hey, he did look good. Both Bubba Kush and Mr. Blunt took 1st place ribbons in their respected classes (12-18 month males and the 2 to 3 yr males). Indica scored herself a 2nd place ribbon in the 3 to 5 females class and that championed her out. Mr. Blunt went on to bag the Best Male trophy and continued to grab the Best in Show award as well. From the show ring, we ran Blunt over to the treadmill race as we wanted to show him before we ran him on this hot day. Not only did he have the best run of all the male dogs, but he also beat out all the girls too and received the best overall run plaque! That was his first (but definitely not his last) 2 minute race! We had a lot of fun in MI and will definitely go back again. BTW, this club is putting out some seriously nice awards… see the pictures! Well worth the travel and gas money if your dogs are ready to go! Well, we are done now until the ADBA Nationals at Tri-State in September. Please make every attempt to be in NJ the weekend of Sept 14th and 15th for some top notch competition. And, as a reminder, I am still looking for trophy sponsors for those Nationals. Please DM (Jacqueline Wakefield-Jones) thru DM for class availability. See yawl in the Fall!
