It’s been a year of beautiful hair and I can’t wait for even more in 2019! I’ve worked a ton of incredible shoots with crazy talented photographers and stunning clients, launched my own line of halo hair extensions, and I can’t wait to propel these businesses into the new year. 2019 will be a year of growth and I am so stinkin’ excited!!! 🥳

Did you know 90% of the time I curl client’s hair with a flat iron??? I find it the best way to get long lasting soft wavy curls that aren’t too ringlety (technical term 😂). My theory is that because the hair is getting heat from both sides of the plate, it gets better shaping and the perfect all day curl. Just make sure to let the hair completely cool before you run your hands through it. Otherwise you just pull the curl right out! 👌

And use a good heat protectant!! Curl on medium heat so you don’t fry your ends. If you don’t have hot tools with variable heat settings...add that to your Christmas list! 🎄

My 3 besties!! As a special events hairstylist and makeup artist, I get asked ALL. THE. TIME. how I create my bo***ir beautiful, soft volume curls that won’t quit. Here’s a secret, ladies...it’s not your hair, it’s the product you’re using (or not using!). I’ve spent 18 years doing hair and makeup and hands down, these are my top three picks.
I’m going to keep them stocked at the studio so you swing by and pick them up, or grab one at your session. And if you’re not local, I will ship them to you!! I believe every women deserves to have the tools she needs to create beautiful hair every day. I’m a licensed cosmetologist and only purchase professional product directly from the company or authorized distributors. Please don’t buy hair products from Amazon, most likely it’s junk. So don’t risk wasting your money.

Paul Mitchell Hot Off the Press- The PERFECT heat protectant to helps give curls a soft hold. Whether you straighten or curl with heat, it is critical you use a good heat protecting product. I love the convenience of this fine mist aerosol spray.

Refinish Control Hairspray by Monat- Super sciency yet super natural, this botanically based hairspray offers incredible hold and shine while keeping hair soft and touchable. Perfect for big sexy curls. It won’t leave hair crunchy and will even double as a makeup setting spray! It’s pretty amazing stuff.

Puff.ME by Schwarzkopf- This is texture powder. If you have flat, limp hair and have never tried texture powder before, you really need to! This small bottle packs a powerful punch of weightless powder that when pushed into the crown of your hair at the root gives incredible and impressive volume.

My Bachelors degree in Theater Design (costuming) basically mean I have a degree in veil fitting! And, no joke, I can pretty much zip any bridesmaid into any dress. True story.

If you are living the vivid life, I’ve got something that will likely be a HUGE game changer for the longevity of your color!
Ok, it’s summer. It’s hot, it’s sunny and our hair takes a beating. And while that shouldn’t deter you from rocking that gorgeous color, we all know that color fades faster in the summer. But it doesn’t have to!
Cosmetology 101 right here: the cuticle of the hair is like shingles on a roof. When the shingles are tight and flat nothing can get in or out. When those hair shingles are splayed open, we lose moisture and more importantly our COLOR! Ever notice that your ends get lighter than your roots over time. Yeah, that’s from sun exposure, styling damage and heat slowly pulling open the cuticle so that color molecules slide on out. So keep that cuticle tight in order to keep your color!
How do you keep a tight cuticle? Glad you asked! First of all rinse your hair with cool water after conditioning your hair. Cool water will shut that cuticle down whereas hot water draws it open. Hot water = color loss. And then use science!! For maximum color retention use split end mender- Rejuvabeads. It’s not just for split ends, it repairs micro damage all along the hair shaft using a positive charge to mechanically draw the cuticle down, locking in moisture and your color. Brand. New. Hair. Science. It’s amazing. And your color will stay amazing too. ❤️

A big color transformation and CAMP BRAIDS!! Did anyone else do that?! I went to girls youth camp as a teen every summer and one of our traditions was wearing hair in braids that you kept in all week, we even shampooed them. Then on Sunday when we were home we’d finally take them out and show off some seriously impressive big hair!

To do these itty bitty braids, or to help you do any braids, sectioning the hair is key. Also, find a comfortable braiding texture- dry, wet, damp. I found using slightly damp hair to work best for these small braids. I also used a little product to give the hair a little stick, not slip! Curl cream worked perfectly and gave the hair just enough stick to help have a tight grip, which helps create a tight braid. 👌

Soft swept updo, perfect for hot humid nights! Hair left down is at risk for going flat or frizzy. Hair up too high can sag and wilt. Opt for a low, loose style and you’ll be in great shape all night. 👌

Airbrush makeup is the only way to go when temperatures are up and the humidity is high!! I loved working with this bridal party, such gorgeous girls inside and out. 💕

Prom hair and makeup!! This has been a crazy busy prom season! I’m sorry to all you sweet girls I couldn’t see, I wish I could have scheduled you all! 😭

When your stylist says, use a pea-sized amount...😂 Too much of a good thing can be bad! Start with less. You can always add more. 😉

Maid of Honor. What a beautiful day it was today in Cape Charles. This bride’s bestie was just a doll and her hair was so cooperative! All of my bridesmaids today were absolutely lovely and let me have full creative license when styling their hair, which is always a treat for me!

I prepped the hair with a good blast of dry shampoo and heat protectant, curled, teased, and twisted. Spritz of hairspray and she’s ready for her honorable maid duties. ❤️
