Been itching to get into some carving again. And being Halloween season I’d been keen to carve a pumpkin again. Opportunity presented itself when I found a pumpkin just outside our accommodation here in Chamonix. I needed some art time so this happened 😂

The Niçoise Art Workshop Part One: despite being in a city with art everywhere: galleries, public sculptures, and beautiful architecture I’ve actually struggled to find a workshop that I could be involved with. All through Europe I’ve loved all the art and have been super keen to get into making my own. Then providentially I met Jeff. A Canadian artist who runs a little workshop in the basement of a church (and with a good cafe on the site). I’ve throughly enjoyed befriending Jeff and talking all things art, life and faith and especially grateful to be able to join his little art group! I’m also looking forward to honing my painting skills under Jeff’s tutelage.

Travelling through Europe and seeing lots of amazing art I’ve been desperate to scratch the creative itch. So was glad of an opportunity to do some printmaking in the Rijkmuseum in Amsterdam

Latest sculpture, carved for my neighbour. Thoroughly loved the process and creating a contrast of the soft floral subject matter with hard sandstone form. Maybe you’d like one for your garden too?

A meeting of art and theology, I’m preaching at St Luke’s today and using my sculpture as a visual aid. Excited about the opportunity to use my art to help people understand theological concepts, something I’ve always wanted to do. And I get to mention Ned: important to keep his story alive. I’m speaking on James 1:12-18

And I made another huge sword. The last one I made in honour of Ned. This one is red, his favourite colour. He would’ve loved this one too. Also down at the Pilgrim Artist Festival

Some of my latest work. Made for a local exhibition festival in Huonville. The prompt was ‘Justice & Mercy’. These are the three days of Jonah, he cried out for mercy and God rescued him from drowning and after 3 days he delivered him back to land. There are echoes of the Jesus story in this too, pointing to an even more massive act of Mercy.

I don’t like seeing wastage so when I found an old mussel buoy I embraced the challenge of redeeming it into an interesting set of objects. Today I installed the two chairs I made, along with an ottoman (also made out of recycled materials) down at Birchs Bay for the latest sculpture exhibition at the Art Farm.
