Mother Tongues is a 5 piece psych rock outfit based out of Toronto. They infuse a pop sensibility in their work, while exploring a wide sonic palette that ranges from early psyche rock to kraut rock and disco rhythms.
The group has been a prominent part of the Toronto music scene since 2012. Their highly anticipated debut full-length album, Love in a Vicious Way was just released July 21 via Wavy Haze Records.
"It's an exploration of the darker ways we love, the parts with teeth," Cheung said of its title. "It possesses you, it's a pit you fall into. Love overtakes you, this record is about surrendering to that feeling."
Members of the group also perform with Luna Li, Zoon, Lido Pimienta, and Hooded Fang.

Shahrazi; somewhere in between the earth and the stars, she explores themes of diaspora, spirit, love, war, and rebirth. Dreamy, soulful sounds from the woods to the water to the moon and back, sinking all the way to your core (and pulling out subconscious moods and roots). You will be happy, filled with euphoric giddiness, you will dive, be challenged, you will dance and your heart will sing.
Their upcoming EP, Journey to Shahraz, mixes elements of nature, improv, the spirit of jazz and punk infused with rock, middle eastern tones, velvety vocals drenched in poetry, eastern folk fusion, surreal soul, psychic rhythms, offbeat grooves, and sensual dreamy drone dances….

Borderless presents: Effigy Girl
Effigy Girl is the music and art of Hazel Dreslinski. Combining influences from shoegaze to synthpop, with a dash of folk, their songs are imbued with the mixture of delicate earnestness, hope and anxiety that arises during transitory times.
The project emerged from a collection of dodgy voice memos recorded during a period of uncertainty about the future. Equally informed by a fascination with surrealism and the uncanny valley - the foundation for Hazel’s multimedia visual art - the core of Effigy Girl is an appreciation of life, unanswerable questions, and what makes us human.
(or, that’s what they’d like to think, anyway).

people you meet outside of bars is the tenderly spooky, uncannily tuneful, and radically honest musical project of Satah Cameron. Borderless Music & Arts Festival presents a cross cultural collaboration between Saskia Tomkins, Jade, and Shahrazi at Millennium Park by the Silver Bean Cafe in Peterborough, Ontario (Treaty 20). Saskia plays the nyckelharpa & violin, Jade is drumming on the djembe, and Shahrazi plays the daf. They had never played together before and this outdoor improv session was also a very new experience for newly emerging artists Jade & Shahrazi. These multidisciplinary artists come from mixed cultural backgrounds and are playing instruments from 3 different continents. We wonder if these instruments have ever been played together!
A nyckelharpa is a traditional Swedish string instrument. The Djembe is a goblet drum originally from West Africa. The Daf is an Iranian frame drum played throughout the Middle East.
This was a very magical day at Millennium Park and we are very grateful for the support we got from the Silverbean Cafe, OPIRG Peterborough, and Electric City Culture Council to make this happen. https://youtu.be/tVnTmOTJwNM
