In recent years, St Albans based folk duo Na-Mara have built an enviable reputation for fine story-telling and musicianship, performing in clubs and festivals across the UK, at events in France, Spain and Germany and on BBC Radio 4 and a plethora of internet and local radio stations. Rob and I had a great time in Madrid performing at the 37th Festival Internacional Andrés Segovia on the 20th and 21st October. Our Saturday concert at the Espacio Ronda, alongside Sardinian guitar maestro Simone Onnis, was wonderfully well received - to the extent of us receiving a standing ovation!
It goes without saying that we also witnessed sublime virtuosity from some of the world’s leading classical guitarists at concerts given by Carlos Bonell, Simone Onnis, Ciro Carbone, the Cuarteto de Guitarras Nonius and Ignacio Rodes. Off duty, we also managed to visit some great restaurants, tavernas, museums and galleries with friends and family.
Very many thanks to Artistic Director, Pablo de la Cruz, and his team for both the invitation to perform at the festival and for the hospitality and support for us during our time in Madrid.
Likewise, very many thanks to Amalia Ramirez, Luthier and Director of Guitarras José Ramirez for providing Rob and I two superb examples of José Ramirez guitars to perform with. The loan of these beautiful instruments obviated the need for us to expose our own instruments to the perils of airport baggage systems.
Finally, thanks to our pal, Dave Berry, for his company and for helping and supporting us throughout our time in Madrid.
Here are a few photographs.
Dear friends,
We have returned to the UK from a wonderful and successful trip to Madrid to the sad news that our planned gig at the Lost Horizons Folk and Acoustic Club this coming Saturday, 28th October 2023 has had to be CANCELLED. Many apologies to anyone considering coming along. We are working with club organisers Trish and Paul to try and find a new date in 2024.
Please watch this space for news and photos from our visit to Madrid.
All best wishes
Paul and Rob
Just under a week to go to our gig at the wonderful Lost Horizons Folk and Acoustic Club. Hope to see you there next Saturday evening.
We are utterly dismayed to see yet another great folk programme on BBC local radio has been axed. Genevieve Tudor’s renowned Sunday evening session on BBC Radio Shropshire is the latest casualty.
We would like to thank Genevieve and all the other BBC folk programme producers on local radio who have supported and played our music over the years, and we wish them well with any future folk-related projects they have planned.
We are very excited to be returning after many years to perform at the Lost Horizons Folk and Acoustic Club on the evening of Saturday 28th October (Start time: 8.30pm). For those that already have the date in their diaries, please not the slight change in venue to The Cider House.
We will be supported on the night by the excellent Finnshrimp from Folkestone.
It should be a great evening. Hope to see you there.
We are honoured and excited to be performing at the Festival Internacional de Guitarra Andrés Segovia at the Espacio Ronda (C/Ronda de Segovia No 50) in Madrid on Saturday 21st October 2023 at 12.00. Our concert will be followed at 13.00 by a performance by renowned Italian classical guitarist, Simone Onnis. We can’t wait.

&dreamers, ,
Na-Mara is pleased to announce the release of a new four-track EP, called ‘Clear Purling Stream’.
The EP presents three traditional tracks (Nancy from London, When I Was A Fair Maid and The Verdant Braes of Screen) and a new Na-Mara composition (Pirates Dressed in Pinstripes) looking into London’s role in the murky world of money laundering.
Clear Purling Stream can now be found on all the main streaming channels or by going to the Music page on www.na-mara.com .
