Image ID: A creme coloured background with a title reading; "What do girls say" in the top left corner. Below it is a a pixelated image of a girl sitting cross-legged from behind, she has a long pony-tail. On the right hand side there text that reads the following quote; "For me as a 12 year old girl I became much more confident and actually quite proud of my menarche and menstruation. Bodil was very calm and she was in the way that we did not feel it was embarrassing to ask questions about menstruation. I am happy that I have learned about something that many do not talk about, and gained knowledge that I will need all my life.”

The evidence is compelling 📣
One of our main goals at is to empower girls and those who menstruate to feel a positive connection with their bodies and menstrual cycles in order to help break down the barriers that shame and taboo associated with periods creates. ❤️ 🩸

ID: A teal background with a pink title reads: Why is breaking down the menstrual taboo so important? Below are four dotpoints that read: -70% of girls 12 to 18 either ‘disliked everything’ about their period or considered it ‘mostly bad
-75% of Australian women say that periods are more taboo than drugs, s*x or mental health problems
-An increased risk of body dysmorphia and eating disorders
-Serious delays in seeking medical help for menstrual problems, which risk long-term health.
In the bottom left corner it reads and in the bottom right corner there is an illustration of white underwear with a blood stain. There are flowers coming out of the top of the underwear.
That’s a lot of periods❗️🩸 which is why cultivating a positive relationship with our bodies and menstrual cycles from a young age is so important.
During a Celebration Day for Girls event, participants take part in an activity called “How Many Periods?” Where they calculate/estimate how many periods they will likely have in their life.
How can we make our 400+ periods more positive? If you could go back and change one thing about managing your period/different points of your cycle, what would it be?

Our CDG facilitators are a pretty special bunch, and are trained by incredible educators alike. Kath Callinan-Moore, an experienced CDG facilitator and trainer, articulates the reciprocal “gift”shared between girls, mothers/carers, and facilitators beautifully in her piece called “The Gift Runs Both Ways” which can be found on The Leak blog at https://chalicefoundation.org/2022/03/17/the-gift-runs-both-ways/
Wondering how to bring up the topic of the menstrual cycle with your daughter or kids in your life? At we refer to natural cycles in nature as a segway to the menstrual cycle. 🌱🌳🍂
What natural cycles can you pick out in this photo?
