Americana West Festival takes over Hotel Café this weekend; here are set times.

More than 30 artists converge on the Hotel Café on Friday and Saturday for the two-stage Americana West Festival.

Utilizing both the venue’s main and second stages, the music starts at 7 p.m. each night. Leslie Stevens, Dead Rock West and Rose’s Pawn Shop close out the main stage on Friday night, and Brian Wright, Manda Mosher and Charlie Overbey have the honors on Saturday as the festival showcases the many shades of roots music.

AWMF ARTIST SPOTLIGHT on Abby Posner!

Abby Posner has music featured on Hulu, Netflix, Freeform, and all over the UK. Sge won the Shelter in Place Songwriting award for her song Blind Spots in 2020 through the Topanga Fiddle Fest Contest, and she landed an official showcase at Folk Alliance in 2022 after signing with Baker Booking. She is a multi-instrumentalist/producer that plays multiple genres including Folk/Americana, blues, rock, and pop.

AWMF ARTIST SPOTLIGHT on The Doohickeys! .doohickeys

The Doohickeys consists of singing and writing duo Haley Spence Brown & Jack Hackett. Hailing from Missouri and Georgia respectively, Haley and Jack met doing comedy in Los Angeles but
bonded over their love-hate relationship with country music. On a whim, they began writing their own songs that they dub “Cheeky Country.” Their song “All Hat, No Cattle” was honorably mentioned in the May/June 2022 edition of American Songwriter and earned an award for “Outstanding Achievement in Songwriting” from the 2023 Great American Song Contest for their song “This Town Sucks." The band has played venues such as The Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, TN (supporting comedian Jim Jefferies), the famous Bluebird Cafe, The Hotel Cafe, Desert 5 Spot and more. Usually, you can find them prowling around the LA music scene blasting their unique spin on country music to anyone wanting to have a fun time.

QUESTIONS:
First concert? I was in 3rd grade and went to see a 90's alternative rock band with my parents called Dada. Ironically two decades later, I co-wrote a country ballad called "My Grass is Blue" with the lead singer, Michael Gurley. That song recently got nominated for Single of the Year by Saving Country Music and Song of the Year by San Diego Music Awards and we are working on an album together now. Strange how the world goes around sometimes.

Molly Hanmer hails from Monterey, California and fronts her namesake band, Molly Hanmer & the Midnight Tokers. Molly is a singer, noted guitarist and harmonica player. You may hear hints of Delta blues, Bob Dylan, the Stones, Bowie, Ben Harper, the Black Keys, Muddy Waters, White Stripes, and Lucinda Williams. The band’s second album, Get Loose, was released Sept 2021. In 2022, it surpassed 1 million streams.

Manda Mosher is an award-winning songwriter, recording artist, multi-instrumentalist, touring musician, and entrepreneur. A full-fledged California girl, she’s a sixth generation Angeleno. Manda has toured extensively through the United States and the UK, including the Stagecoach Music Festival in 2014 and 2018, and as an official AMERICANAFEST Showcase Artist in 2015 and 2017. Her songs have appeared in many films and television shows, including the feature films “Please Stand By”, and “Walk of Shame”, and TV shows like CBS’s “NCIS: Los Angeles”, NBC’s “The Nightshift,” and the Netflix original series “The Ranch”. She also performed on CBS’s “The Late Late Show.” Manda is co-founder and co-owner of Blackbird Record Label, an apparel company, California Country Apparel, and a recording facility, San Fernando Valley Recording.
