Turn to 2 Chronicles 20 for a moment. Verses 21–22. This describes the situation in the history of Judah when a strong alien army was invading them and King Jehoshaphat realized that he did not have the military resources to meet this army. So he resorted to spiritual weapons instead. And after various things had happened before they marched out to the battle in accordance with God’s instructions, this is what they did:

And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed singers unto the LORD, and that should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army, and to say, Praise the LORD; for His mercy endureth forever.

Many people have pointed out that’s a strange battle strategy. Instead of sending out the tanks first they sent out the choir to praise God. It sounds crazy, but they had one advantage—it worked! What happened when they began to praise the Lord? It says in verse 22:

And when they began to sing and to praise, the LORD set ambushments against the children of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir, which were come against Judah; and they were smitten.

The alternative translation is “they began to smite one another.” So when God’s people praised the Lord, God intervened and dealt with their enemies. You read the rest of the story; they didn’t have to use a single material weapon. All they had to do was go out and strip the bodies of the spoil. And there was so much spoil it took them three days to gather it. What opened the way for God’s supernatural intervention? When His people praised the Lord.

We have had some very mild weather in November this year, but today it actually does feel like autumn here in the Ozark Mountains where I live. A little chilly with more than a hint of rain; a few drops are actually falling. Today I decided I wanted soup for lunch. I used my basic vegetable soup recipe and gave it a little Southwest twist. Maybe you will like this sometime yourself. I really did.

Chili Soup

Ingredients:

1 pkg. beefy onion soup prepared according to package directions (add 4 cups water to the soup mix—preferably Kangen water)
1 onion, chopped
2 14.5-ounce cans tomatoes with juice
2 15-ounce cans corn, drained
1 15-ounce can black beans, drained and rinsed
1 14.5-ounce can green beans, drained
1 15-ounce can green peas, drained
1/2 Tbs. salt
1 Tbs. garlic powder
2 Tbs. chili powder (or season to taste)*

Directions:

Bring these ingredients to a boil; then simmer for ten minutes. Dip the soup into bowls. Garnish with salsa, sour cream, and black olives. Serve with Fritos corn chips or your favorite brand of tortilla chips.

*If you are using a strong chili seasoning, you may want to reduce the amount used to 1 Tbs. I used a generic, moderate seasoning type, and for the chili seasoning I used, 2 Tbs. worked well.
