Mexico vs. US: trade dispute over genetically modified corn - Food Politics by Marion Nestle 29/03/2024

Good for Mexico challenging GMO imports from the U.S. siting solid reasons why they don’t want our corn. There’s a good link in this article that spells out Mexico’s concerns. Organic corn cannot be GMO by legal definition here in the U.S.- that’s the type to buy, but don’t forget to read product labels to ensure you’re getting non-GMO ingredients.

Mexico vs. US: trade dispute over genetically modified corn - Food Politics by Marion Nestle I am deluged with emails urging me to say something about the trade dispute between Mexico and the United States over genetically modified (GMO) corn. Let me confess immediately to a particular difficulty understanding international food trade. I find the abbreviations (NAFTA, USMCA) and odd termino...

This doesn't surprise me - medical nutrition therapy not only heals, it saves a lot of money in health care costs.

'Medically tailored' meals can avert hospital stays, save billions, study says Delivering "medically tailored" meals to seriously ill people in the United States could help avoid 1.6 million hospitalizations annually and save nearly $13.6 billion per year, a Tufts University study estimates.

AVOCADO LIME SALMON

“Leftover” salad. I love using up extra food in a salad meal. No need to waste bits and pieces. A few days ago, I made homemade falafel and had leftover pickled onions, chopped tomatoes and cucumbers, Romaine lettuce, tahini sauce, and falafel rounds. The beets were served on the side, also leftover. 10-minutes to dinner!

The vicious cycle of food and sleep 07/01/2022

A researcher explains how diet can affect sleep. Lack of sufficient sleep is a risk factor for many health conditions. Small tweaks in our diets can yield improved sleep leading to improved health as well. I have found many of my clients are confused by the term “healthy diet”. Our modern way of eating short changes our health. The best defense is a great offense! Do you have an objective view around your own diet and lifestyle? What is a healthy diet for you personally? What tweaks in 2022 would you like to make to improve your sleep?

The vicious cycle of food and sleep OPINION: More than a third of Americans don’t log enough hours in bed, provoking serious impacts on their health. Diet is an important and under-recognized reason.

Noom Is A Dieter's Diet 23/10/2021

Yes, this is a diet and it will perpetuate one's thoughts about food by keeping you logging what you eat and encouraging you to ignore your natural hunger signaling. Not recommended!

Noom Is A Dieter's Diet The popular weight-loss app promises a nonrestrictive eating plan based in psychology. Can it really deliver?

Does your pop have 9g of fiber? This is a new find I came across at a restaurant in Santa Fe, NM. Also has gut healing ingredients like extracts of slippery elm bark, marshmallow root, and kudzo root. 35 calories of refreshment!

The color of health! What I love about summer is the harvest of so many colorful fruits and vegetables. This is today’s purchase from my local organic farmer.

Phytonutrients: these vegetables here are full of them.

What are phytonutrients you ask? There are over 4,000 compounds in this broad category of nutrients. Some you may have heard of are flavones, carotenoids, catechins, polyphenols, antioxidants, and more! The bigger variety of foods you eat, the more of the compounds you get.

What do they do? It depends on the type, but in general they support your immune system, vision, cognition, bone and skin health, protect against cancer and heart disease, lower inflammation, maintain normal blood pressure, maintain good joint health, and optimize hormones to name just a few of their physiologic effects.

And in addition to the benefits mentioned above, they are full of fiber, vitamins, minerals, and help keep your gut populated with beneficial bacteria.

Eat all the colors and challenge yourself to try something new!

Just passed a massive Texas cattle feed lot operation. No grass or room to roam for these cows.

They eat GMO corn producing an inflammatory meat product compared to grass fed free range cattle. Feed lot meat is the majority of what you find in grocery stores and restaurants. It’s cheaper than grass fed meat, but not when one considers health effects after years of eating beef like this. If you do eat beef, read labels: grass fed better option and minimize your intake.

Sometimes the simplest of dishes are the tastiest and most nourishing. Organic tofu lettuce wraps with thinly sliced organic raw vegetables and chili sauce. Found in Big Sur, CA. They grow their own vegetables Yum! If you like glamping or camping, check out this place.

Nothing like dining outside in northern Michigan in the summer. Chard wrapped local fish in lemon-olive broth, cabbage-pineapple slaw, wild rice pilaf, champagne (why not?).
