Prayers need for yet another family losing an LEO.

MI- Oakland County Sheriff's Deputy Bradley Reckling, 30, was shot and killed when the suspected stolen vehicle he was following with other members of the Auto Theft Unit suddenly stopped, and the driver stepped out and opened fire. The suspect is in custody.
Reckling was a nine year veteran of the department, known as an athlete and outdoorsman.
He was a husband, a son and a friend. He was a husband and father to three children, and one more he will never get to meet.
He was real, with real people who loved him.

Last night Chisago County Sheriff's Office held a memorial service for K9 Ghost. Our foundation was blessed to be asked to provide refreshments and food for all of Ghost and Deputy Johnson's many supporters. Sending sympathies and prayers to St. Anthony Police Department regarding this heartbreaking loss.

We are deeply saddened to announce the unexpected passing of retired Police Chief Jon Mangseth. Chief Mangseth retired from the St. Anthony Police Department on January 31, 2024, after 29 years of service. During his time with St. Anthony, he served as a patrol officer, a patrol sergeant, a use-of-force instructor, was a member of the East Metro SWAT Team, and had been the Police Chief since 2016. Those who had the privilege of working with Chief Mangseth described him as a rock, calm and measured, sound in judgement, an incredible coach and mentor, trustworthy and the kind of Chief everyone wanted to work for. He played a pivotal role into the success and strong culture of the St. Anthony Police Department and we will be forever grateful. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Mangseth family.

DID YOU KNOW?

CCSO Foundation works tirelessly to support the Chisago County Sheriff's Office year-round. Along with big fundraising events like our recent gym remodel for CCSO staff, the foundation also quietly provides meals for events like Officer Swearing In Ceremonies, various national law enforcement days and helps coordinate and provide necessities for awards banquets. We also donate help items such as tissues, lotion and over-the-counter cold and flu helps during flu season, and drinks and snacks during hot summer events and trainings.

Your donation to CCSO Foundation (a 501c3 charitable organization) helps us ensure that our local sheriff's office staff has everything they need to perform their jobs at optimal function.

Please consider giving to help our cause by mailing a check to:

Please share. Encourage LEOs in your life to consider working for Chisago County Sheriff's Office

“Since the beginning of 2023, there have been 18 police officers and 1 firefighter/ paramedic that have been shot in the state of Minnesota. Four of them lost their lives.”

-BCA Superintendent Drew Evans during a press conference last week.

Law enforcement is currently in a crisis for cops. There have been more cops shot in Minnesota since the beginning of 2023, than showed up for a testing process we hosted last year. Yes, you read that correctly. Stop scrolling for 18 seconds and consider the fact that 18 cops have been shot since the beginning of 2023. That number is greater than the applicants we received for a deputy position.

We have received 90 applications for a clerical opening, 49 applications for a dispatch opening and an abundance of applications for a corrections officer opening. Yet, for the position of deputy sheriff, the applications are in the single digits now.

Our agency is not alone in this, and some agencies are in a far worse position than we are. Finding quality people willing to do this job is becoming harder and harder. Our state is in a crisis for cops.

Who is willing to do this job? Who is willing to carry the weight of this badge? Who is willing to stand in the gap between order and chaos? That number is dwindling before our very eyes.

As we all continue working to process through the the horrific events that took place in Burnsville, please join us in continued prayer for the family members, friends and coworkers of Adam, Paul and Matt.

Good morning, cherished friends!! We've had a bit of a hiatus here due to some volunteer changes, but we're back, and we wanted to give you an exciting update!!! A year and a half ago, we launched a fundraiser for gym equipment for our amazing County Sheriff's Office staff. The old equipment consisted of items brought in from staff members' homes (see "before" pics). In October, we completed the fundraiser, raising just over $15k and were able to purchase all new gym equipment thanks to the generous and amazing support of Chisago County citizens and businesses!! Check out the before and after photos!!!! I'm told the gym gets used quite often and that the team is beyond grateful for your support. Thank you, all, SO much, for your dedication to our county law enforcement team!! Looking forward to partnering with you all on more ways to say "thank you" to our awesome CCSO staff!!

On September 12, 1983, Chisago County Sheriff David Ninnemann sent out an agency memo, announcing a new shoulder emblem that would be worn on our uniforms. Today, that emblem is 40 years old!

There was much planning and thought that went into the creation of the patch. Deputy Bob Patrick worked on it for over 7 months, contacting 50 different emblem manufacturers! Here are some of the meanings behind the patch we wear on our sleeves:

-The two predominant colors are blue and yellow. The colors were chosen because of the strong Swedish history within Chisago County. These colors are the ones found on the national flag of Sweden.
-The shape of the emblem is that of an arrowhead, symbolic of the Chippewa Indians who inhabited the area prior to the early immigrant settlers.
-The five-point star is similar to the size and shape of the gold badge deputies wear on their uniforms. The small blue star represents the location of the county seat in Center City.
-The original patch was made with white felt material. It is not commonplace in a patch and added a unique quality to the emblem.
-The two golden branches of leaves that border the emblem’s edge represent the woodlands within the county.
-The phrase “Ki-Chi-Saga” was original to the Chippewa, which means “Fair and Lovely Lakes.” The words were later changed by the Swedish immigrants to the present “Chisago.”

If you ever get a tour of our Public Safety Center, we have a display chronicling the progression of our patch over the four decades. It has gone through some slight variations, but the patch has by and large stayed the same over all this time!
