To help those new buyer folks to understand why the cost of goats "seems" too much.
Anyone can buy a pet goat for a fairly low price, even go to auction and perhaps buy a reasonably priced goat.
When it comes to pure bred milk and meat goats, this is a totally different level of goats.
We of breeding integrity and caring for our herds of goats, this is hard work that costs greatly to ensure the health, genetics, and purpose of function wanted....
A good breeder:
Frequent testings, dna, bio, genetics
Most of us learn to draw our own blood samples and send directly to labs. This costs $20 - $30 per goat.
We pay or do our own hoof care, dusbudding, and vaccines. This is expensive and time consuming.
We purchase expensive vitamins, hays and other healthy products to ensure good health.
We learn basic vet care, recognize disease, do emergency treatments if needed, assist our goats birthing if needed. This cost is emotional and monetary.
We manually milk or machine milk dairy goats. Milk has to be handled precisely for health benefits and product makings. This is an expense.
Meat goats have to be high standards, also appropriate environmental standards, and specialized nutritional resources, this costs.
We learn disbudding of dairy goats, this is risky for the goat and handlers. You must purchase specific equipment.
Registered goats are tattooed, it's required. This costs..
Bottle baby supplies cost, so new owners have a tame sweet goat to buy.
Education costs, showing costs, setting up websites and yearly maintenance costs.
Registry and pedigree costs, goat registry membership costs.
Dna and genetic requirement costs.
Milk test on dairy goats costs.
Soap making from milk costs.
I can go on forever. Now...
Some of us newer breeders of integrity may sell a pb goat at a low cost of 300.00 and a veteran breeder of years standing will sell at 500.00 and up into thousand.
For that ADGA Registered goat of pure blood status may seem expensive to some. Some folks think a goat
is a goat, but have never had to put the commitment, time, and money in for genetics, breeding, testings or developed the level of educational needs to produce excellence in the goat industry.
A pet goat is not the same as a goat created to function with purpose, longevity and quality of product.
Those that barter the price of these kinds of goats, can go get a pet goat instead to play with. As the superior genetic goats are for intelligent people that are committed and work hard to offer the best of the best. We that know these goats are for a purpose, buy from each other and know the hard work that comes with that goat. Most of the hard work has already been done.
I myself have not paid a small price to own great genetics, selectively bred goats.
Goat breeders welcome to share and even add more of your breeding program costs.
Public certainly needs to be informed about pet and pure bred goats.
Well maybe it’s time I start thinking/posting about goats. I guess I’m always thinking about them but winter has made a mess and it’s hard to get updated pictures of them. Plus they’re all together and they’re little monsters when their in a pack 🤣
I have updated my 2023 kidding schedule finally. My first does are due in a week!! If you are looking for milk production please take a look.
I also have a huge announcement coming, even though this boy has been here for a while and has bred many of my does!!!
While your browsing take a look at the soaps and other products. They are great for washing stinky buck smell off 😉
Broken Halos I am now accepting reservations on the below bred does. I reserve the right to retain any kid from our breeding program.
In our case it will be more snow 😞
I think Mother Nature has her wires crossed 😂
Who shook up the snow globe??
Merry Christmas!! We hope you all have a wonderful and blessed holiday season 💕💕
