Jacob Ventura is a candidate in the State Senate Special Election to represent the Bristol & Norfolk district. Hodgson among other elected officials soon to be announced. Jacob is running for State Senate to make state government work better for all of us - by sharing a vision that is committed to you, your family, and our communities. Jacob Ventura represents a new generation of leadership that

values ideas over political parties, good government over patronage, and a reform agenda that shares the values of working families. We all agree that state government needs to be REFORMED to be effective. We demand that state government must be FISCALLY RESPONSIBLE with our hard-earned tax dollars. We know that state government needs to be flexible and supportive of our local officials, small businesses, and community groups to help REVITALIZE our cities and towns. Most importantly, this campaign is about listening and learning from you about the issues affecting us. Along with Governor Charlie Baker, Jacob will help carry out his fiscally responsible reform agenda so Massachusetts can fully realize its greatness. Jacob was born and raised in Southeastern Massachusetts by a loving and supportive family. He learned early on the value of hard work from his parents and grandparents. He comes from a working-class family who through each new generation has been able to achieve more than the previous. As a proud member of the Wampanoag Aquinnah Tribe with Portuguese and Cape Verdean heritage, Jacob understands the value diversity contributes to our communities. As a first generation college graduate from UMASS Dartmouth with a degree in finance, Jacob worked throughout to help pay for it. He then worked in banking at J.P. Morgan in Boston. Later Jacob earned his J.D. from Washington & Lee University School of Law. Jacob just recently became barred as a new attorney. Jacob has always been committed to public service, because it is the highest honor. After serving as a Town Meeting member and a finance committee member, he had the privilege to join Representative Steven Howitt‘s legislative office at the state house in 2011. Together they have served the people of Seekonk, Rehoboth, and Norton, and he has learned from the best. Constituent services will be his highest priority as your State Senator. Assisting towns, residents, businesses, and organizations in their time of need and honoring them in times of triumph and achievement are traditions he will bring to the State Senate. Jacob's experience in the legislature and all three levels of government will make him ready to go on day one. Jacob Ventura is working hard to earn every independent and Democrat vote he can for the Special Election on October 17th. Because good ideas and good government should always prevail over political parties.

DECREASED STAFFING FEBRUARY 8

Yesterday, February 8th, the New Bedford Police Department once again operated at a decreased staffing level per order of the Chief of Police.

Information regarding updated written policies and procedures or updated, documented, plans of action to address current staffing concerns and call response may be directed to the New Bedford Police Department Office of the Chief of Police at 508-991-6300.

Likewise, questions regarding the vacant number of officer assignments or vacant area patrol units should be directed to Office of the Chief of Police as well.

The purpose of this notice is to keep city residents and visitors aware of the decrease in the number of officers on the street and a possible decrease in the expected level of service promised to them by city officials.

Contact Information Regarding Ongoing Reduced Staffing Levels

As previously mentioned, the purpose of the New Bedford Police Union providing information regarding decreased staffing levels is to make the public aware of the potential for a decrease in the level of service promised by city officials. The information is not being released in real-time out of caution for the safety of community as well as the officers on patrol.

It should be noted that since the practice of operating with decreased staffing levels, on more than one occasion there have been multiple front-line cruisers grounded on the same shift. Front-line cruisers and officer assignments are dedicated to patrolling and responding to designated areas within the city.

The New Bedford Police Union recognizes that the citizens of New Bedford may have questions if their neighborhoods are among those affected by decreased patrol coverage and what the reason is for the lack of assigned officers to their neighborhoods.

Questions regarding ongoing decreased staffing, which area assignments are left vacant, and the reason for the decrease in police services should be directed to any of the following city officials:
