Due to some summer school changes, Ms. Metz is now offering a studio art class this summer at Spence!
June 10-27, from 8am-12noon. You can flex the time too! Students can come for two hours (8-10 or 10-12) or stay for the whole time (8-10)
The class is for any students entering grades 3-9. Tell all your friends too! It's free to sign up (if you’re in the school district of LaCrosse).

Course Name “Rat’s eye view- Eco art in Action” (this is the name of the course in the catalog, but I’ve change the content to studio art )
COURSE DESCRIPTION: In this studio art class, students can arrive at 8 or 10. They can stay for 2 hours or 4 hours. Featured activities include a clay studio, papier mache, painting, fiber arts, and re-usable and repurposed sculptures. "Studio art" means students can choose from a variety of media to create art of their choice.
The class is Monday-Thurdays, June 10-June 27, 8am-12noon in the Spence art room.

Our All School Art Show from artists Prek- 5th grade will be on display at Spence April 25-May 10. We are having an art show OPEN HOUSE fThursday April 25, from 3:30-6:00. Students and their families are invited to come anytime during the open house hours to enjoy the art, cookies and some family art activities!

Get ready for the buzzing return of 'Perennials and Pollinators' in the garden! A big thank you to Mr. and Mrs. Eide and Mr. Maas for their contributions and hard work to make this possible. This stunning mural was created by students in 2021 with the talented artist-in-residence Natalie Hinahara. A special shout out to parent Jacqui Marcou for her unwavering support and inspiration!

Coulee region artist, Jill Rippe and the Pumphouse Pump House Regional Arts Center are co-sponsoring this course along with SDLAX.

In remembrance: a generation ago in 2002 a group of dedicated Spence educators and students created this quilt in response to the events of 9/11. The intention was to symbolize unity and diversity. This beautiful quilt and students’ written responses are still on display outside our Spence LMC and the message continues to be as important today as it was 20 years ago. In peace, Ms Metz❤️☮️🕊️

The mural is nearly complete!

5th grade Art field trip to the Minnesota Marine Art Museum. We also stopped at Lake Park in winona for a picnic lunch and Riverside park for drawing time in sketchbooks😁🖌️🎨. This annual field trip has been a cherished tradition and memorable way to spend time with 5th graders before they move on to middle school. Thank you to all those who partner to make this an enriching and safe experience viewing a world class art collection: Mrs. Buxton, Mr. Schmitz, Ms. Roberts, Mrs. Becker, the MMAM staff and volunteer docents, our bus driver, our nutrition staff; Linda, Kelsey and Tawni for all the preparation administration; the Spence staff members who filled in for students, and of course Our principal Mrs. Huth for supporting us in these extraordinary adventures!

In our outdoor painting lessons we have 4 different “studios”: mural painting with Mr. Martino, splatter painting in a box ala Jackson Pollack; chalk painting; and Arts for All stamping. Special thanks to Lindsey Shay for providing the Arts for All experience- the students loved stamping and rolling with the adaptive tools. Also thank you Barb Oettel and UWl student teacher Kelsey for all your help!

The first 2 days with artist-in-residence Mike Martino creating our Across the Universe mural. We had great weather and super volunteers! This residency is generously sponsored by the Lacrosse Public Education Foundation and the Spence PTO.

These two art pieces will be presented at tonights school board meeting. The first is an origami collaboration between board members and Spence 4th and 5th grade students. The second is a piece by 5th grader Aetina vue. Her artwork was selected to hang at the school for the following year by board member Dr. Meredith Garcia. Congratulations to all for your beautiful work!

Congratulations to the many Spence artists who have work at the Pump House Regional Art Center! Several Lacrosse elementary schools are featured in this exhibit that will be available to view during regular Pump House hours until February.
