"Supposedly the tradition became popular here in the United States during the Vietnam war. It is believed it was a way to show respect without getting into an uncomfortable political discussion about a war that was very controversial.
In general, however, this tradition can be traced to as far back as the Roman Empire. It was a way to give a buddy some spending money for the hereafter."

The Fourth of July is a time of celebration and a way of honoring America’s independence. The holiday is synonymous with backyard barbecues, red-white-and-blue celebrations, sparklers and fireworks, but those booming firecrackers can cause added stress, especially to military veterans who suffer from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.

Sudden and loud noises like fireworks can trigger PTSD for veterans who experienced traumatic events during their service. Please be mindful of our Veterans during this holiday.

Are you a Veteran in crisis or concerned about one?

Connect with the Veterans Crisis Line to reach caring, qualified responders with the Department of Veterans Affairs. Many of them are Veterans themselves.

Some words for those that don't understand what this weekend is all about...it is NOT a "happy" holiday...so please do NOT say "Happy Memorial Day/Weekend"...it is a day the nation gives respect to those that died (soldiers/veterans) that fought for our freedom. I know you may think its polite to say THANK YOU to a veteran this holiday, but wait until after this holiday. Many have lost someone that earned that right to be respected this holiday, with their death. It is a time to grieve that loss and show honor to them. It is NOT a happy day......This weekend I honor and give a slow hand salute to these men and women that gave the ultimate sacrifice to our county. May we never forget!
SALUTE 🇺🇸😞

March 29, 2023 will mark the 50th anniversary of U.S. troops leaving South Vietnam in 1973.

March 29 is designated as National Vietnam War Veterans Day. This is a time to pay special tribute to the 9 million Americans who served during the Vietnam War era, to the 58,000 names memorialized on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., and to those who never received the recognition they deserved when they returned to America from war.

March 29, 1973, is the day U.S. Military Assistance Command, Vietnam was disestablished and the day the last U.S. combat troops departed Vietnam. In addition, on and around this same day, the U.S. Vietnam War Commemoration stated that Hanoi released the last of its acknowledged prisoners of war.

Here is some information from the Vietnam War Memorial Wall in Washington, D.C.

Pearl Harbor Day

The 81st anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor by the Imperial Japanese Navy on the morning of Dec. 7, 1941. The attack in Hawaii claimed more than 2,400 American lives and brought the United States into World War II.

Hundreds of Japanese warplanes and submarines targeted the U.S. naval base and sank four battleships and two destroyers. The 90-minute-long attack damaged many other aircraft, buildings, and ships. The next day U.S. entered World War II and then-President Franklin D. Roosevelt delivered one of the most important speeches in U.S. history.

"Yesterday, December 7, 1941,—a date which will live in infamy—the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan," he said to open his remarks declaring a state of war to Congress, following which a resolution was approved that recognized the U.S. was at war with Japan.

Pearl Harbor Day is observed every year in the United States on Dec. 7 to remember the tragic day for Americans.

We remember 🫡🇺🇸
